Step-parent adoption in CA

My husband has complete parental rights of our daughter. The biological mother signed away all of her rights nearly a year ago. I am in the process of getting step-parent adoption and one thing has not been clear to me. After the adoption is finalized, can I change the name on the birth certificate to mine and take the BM off? Thanks! -Ash

In Arizona you can so I assume you can elsewhere.  Once the adoption is final you will send in the adoption informaiton and you can get a new birth certificate with your name on it.  I do adoption home studies and we use an adoption certificate.  I have also adopted myself and my name is on his birth certificate.  Good luck!

I know you could in Tennessee....your attorney should be able to tell you!
