Keeping your sanity while working from home

How do you do it? The biggest thing in my book is…my book! My date book that is. If you want to be less cluttered physically and mentally, and you want to be professional in your home business, you need a daily planner. Now I’m not saying go out there and spend $100 on one of those pretty little leather bound books. Lined paper with a date on top and times written down the side works just fine. You can even just buy the day planner pages if you want to be frugal, but not spend all that time making your own pages. When choosing/making pages it is important to think about how you schedule your time. I tend to schedule in hour blocks, so my date book has one day per page and each day is divided into hours. Make sure you have enough room to write all the info you need in each block. This means teeny tiny pages or pages with multiple days on them are not always the best idea.

Now that you have a date book, use it! Schedule at least 2 weeks in advance, more if you tend to make business plans far in advance. I tend to schedule only a few days at a time for my business, so I set my hours a few weeks at a time. First schedule the “musts”; Family, church, doctor appointments, standing girls night every third Friday; whatever you have that you need to do for your family, your health, or your sanity. Now schedule your business hours. Find a system that works for you. I circle the hours in my book that I will be working. Some people use different color highlighters, blue for family time, pink for religion, green for friends/personal, and yellow for business. You do what works best for you.

So, you now have a nice schedule. You have time for your family, time for you, and time for your business. This is the most important part: stick to it!!! What good does it do to create a schedule and then ignore it? If you can schedule your time and stick to your schedule (crazy kid shenanigans not withstanding) you will be much closer to sanity.

If you can do all this, and are still searching for the right work at home opportunity, please click here and I (no one else, you have my word) will be in contact with you. Please only request information if you are serious about working from home and willing to put at least 10 hours a week into that work – make that 10 scheduled hours J
