We went to the child psych yesterday to follow up on his diagnosis.  Along with starting therapy with him and going to the gp for a physical and to discuss the possibility of meds, the doctor had some interesting advice.

He talked about the conscious, subconscious and unconscious mind.  He said the unconscious mind never sleeps, so after Sam falls asleep I'm supposed to tell him positive affirmations.  Anyone ever heard of this?  What do you think?

I've heard of it but don't have an opinion on it. Anything is worth a shot!?

I wholeheartedly agree. There have been many nights where I've done the same thing for my children. I especially pray over them as they sleep.  Outloud. (It's spiritual warfare praying) Even if you don't understand the ins and outs of the subconscious mind, do it anyway. It can't hurt. But there is a possibility it will help. :)

Blessings!

Thanks everyone!  I've always prayed over Sam.  Before he was conceived I prayed for him. It's continuous, isn't it?  So I'm taking these humanistic affirmations and putting my own Christian twist on them.  :D

I'm trying to get an appointment scheduled with his pediatrician so we can do a complete physical and talk about meds.  He's doing well with his sleep lately.  But the food.... :(

Sassymom, I'm in Nevada, northern Nevada, no where near Vegas.

Got the pediatrician scheduled for next Wednesday.  The psych for next Thursday.  And I think the school staff is going to hate me for being a teacher and a mom with a child with needs.  (But how blessed am I that I've taught for years and had experience with kids with ADHD and Aspergers?? :)

Be choosy when you find a psych.  There's a wide range of programs and people out there.  Our psych is quite humanistic, but he used to work for a pastor/counselor at our church and is amazing at his job.  Highly recommended by the pastor.  I just put a godly spin on the humanistic stuff he suggests.  :)
