  • Hi. Febrile Seisures can be from hypopituitarism or panhypopituitarism. It often goes over looked. You should request your doctor do some blood work like check... ACTH levels, IGF, TSH, T4, Cortisol levels. Does your child get sick rather easy?

  • My youngest son -now three years old- had febrile seizures from when he was about nine months ubtil he was two years old.  (And he had a LOT of fevers during that time; he has an IGA immunodeficiency, and was just always, always sick.)  They could be scary, but never left any residual effects.  After he'd had several in a row, they did do an EEG (he was roughly a year old) to rule out epilepsy, or any other potential issues; turned out he was fine, and he outgrew the febrile seizures without any complications.  If your son continues to have them, make sure that his doctor does do a complete workup; while generally benign in nature, febrile seizures can -as PP mentioned- be a symptom of underlying issues, if the child has them often.  More than likely, though, he will be just fine.

  • Hello!

I am sorry to hear about your son's febrile Seizure.  I am an RN and work in a Pediatric E.R.  We see kids almost daily with febrile seizures.  They are terrifying for parents but are benign seizures.  It isn't fully understood why it occurs.  Everyone has a specific siezure threshold, some are higher some are lower.  Some kids are very sensitive to temperature rising, and will have seizures with high temps.  I always tell parents to pay close attention to their little ones when they are sick.  Motrin and Tylenol as soon as you suspect are becoming febrile, and set your alarm to wake when the next dose of motrin/tylenol is due.  When they seize try (as hard as that is) not to panic..gently place the little on their left side, use a bulb syringe to suction any saliva that may cause choking...they usually subside within a minute or two.  I would always have rectal tylenol on hand so that post siezure when they are lethargic and tired (post-ictal) you can administer it to reduce the fever.  Make sure when your little one is sick and fevering to NOT over dress or over cover him, this increases the temp.  Kids usually outgrow febrile seizures at about 2 or 3.  It is recommended to follow up with a neurologist with two or more seizures to rule out anything more complex.  Hang in there Momma!  :)

  • my daughter had repeated seizures starting at 23 days old and continued til present it wasnt til she had on that lasted over 5 hours that doctors looked closer and found out that she has a subtle brain abnormality on her left frontal lobe that causes them, the neurologist informed me that fevers just lower a childs normal seizure threshold everyone has one just some are lower than others. while my brother and brother in law both had them as children and out grew them she may never.

  • My Daughter has had three confirmed febrile seizures and two suspected ones.  The first happened in the er we were already there cause her temp was 104 three hours after having motrin.  It was a small one just twitched for a few seconds then fine.  The second was the same and temp was(8 pm) 103 gave meds waited two hours and it had risen to 105 so we went to the er waited three hours got sent home with antibiotics.(11 pm)  I had put her to bed and was sleeping on the couch when i heard her scream I went in her room and she was just out of it .(1 am) At the time I thought maybe she had a bad dream so i layed down with her and about ten minuted later she started having a full blown seizure.  It lasted about 5 min.  I was terrified.  After the seizing stopped she was unresponsive and not breathing.  Had to do cpr got her breathing again and called 911 cause she was still completely unresponsive.  Eyes rolled back and limp.  She remained that way for a good two hours.  We were at the er till 7 am they ran blood tests and urine tests and diagnosed her with a uti wich was what the y thought she had the first time she had a seizure.  The doctors will tell you its no big deal but i know from experience that when your baby is laying there lifeless in your arms all you want is someone to make them better and give you some answers.
