Sorry this may be a silly question but I wondered if anyone else ever ran into this situation. I receive 3 boxes of infant cereal a month for my 10 month old daughter. I NEVER use all of it, I have a few boxes sitting in my cabinet right now. I suppose my question is how much cereal should I be using? I thought WIC was only a supplemental program. Am I feeding her too little cereal? Also, she gets grains in other places such as cheerios, goldfish etc. I just wanted to hear from other moms on how much they give their child. Thanks so much for your time!
I would either donate it or find someone willing to make a trade. My daughter only drank soy milk for the first few years, and my brother still lived at home when I was on WIC, so I would trade cow milk for soy milk with my mom. My daughter probably went through maybe two boxes of cereal total, she just didn't like it.
OH wow, thank you for the replies. I am glad she's not the only one who doesn't eat that much cereal. I didn't know you didn't have to purchase all the food on the voucher, that is really good to know. Thanks!
another thing I did, get the cereal amount and then donate what you dont use to the salvation army womens shelters or even your local WIC office(as long as they still in the plastic)
It's really strange, when they are infants WIC tends to give you WAY too much cereal, but then when the become toddlers/ preschoolers, in my opinion, they give you way too little. In any case, if your doc thinks she's of good weight, and her iron is ok, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I always wondered why they give so much of that too. My kids don't like it and all refused to eat it after the first 2 weeks of trying foods. I sometimes felt a bit guilty not getting it, but its better that it doesn't go to waste. Sometimes I get it anyway and donate it to the foodbank or the shelter.
