  • Member number 2, Woot!  Lor from Colorado USA here.  We have 8 kids, 6 or 7 of them still at home (Dani's in college but we see WAY too much of her so she must still live here more or less).  We live on a small farm with our rescued horses, chickens, cats and dogs.  I have about an acre in garden (hey, I'm feeding seven kids!) and I do a LOT of canning and freezing every year.  We're kinda flirting with self-sufficiency here and our big dream is to put up a wind turbine this year.

  • I'm Heather from Lancaster County, Pa.....I have two boys 10 and 8 and have been married for 10 1/2 yrs.  My husband works f-t job outside of the farm at a local New Holland Dealer...."Messicks Farm Equipment"

We have a 32 acre farm here and have started raising beef cows, we are currently working on getting our land preserved!  we also have some fainting goats , chickens and some cats!  We put a small crop of tobbacco out this year and that will be the last year!  I didn't have a garden this year because, it was all taken up by tobacco and it really sucks not having a garden!  I would've had strawberries but the goats escaped and ate every single last strawberry plant!

I was glad to here about this group and I look forward to talking to other farm mommies!

  • Hi

Well... We live on 200 acres in the same house my husband grew up in.  Raising 3 kids,  goats,  cats,  dogs and a bird.  We also have a horse and some cattle...  and we try to raise a pig or two every year (for meat).
My husband keeps bee's so we have honey.  I grow some veggies in summer too.  The ranch has a lake so there's also fish if we want...  for fun or food.

I love that my kids breathe clean air and play in the dirt.

I've always been a country girl born and raised on the outskirts of this town myself.

My husband is a general contractor and together we run the business out of our home so there is always a parent in the house.  always.  LIfe is good.

    ... I'll die trying

  • Hi..I'm Kim...I live in Cohoctah, Michigan...a very small farming community (village actually).  We have a post office (no mail delivery here!), a gas station/general store and the main attraction is our grain mill & elevator.  Currently, my husband Steve, my son Kirk (he's 25 and back home due to such high unemployment rates) and my 4 year old grandson, Kaden the cowboy (whom we have guardianship of) are living here on an acre or so.  At this time we don't have any animals although we garden, can & freeze alot of our food.  I grew up out here on a dairy farm, raised goats, pigs and quarter horses.  I grew up active in 4H, and in the quarter horse association...got my high school letter from the rodeo team...my sister lives close by and she has the hoses at her place (yeah..I don't have to feed at 6am)..I do help out as much as possible...I moved to the city (close to Detroit) when I married, and thats where we raised our 2 kids and numerous nieces & nephews...yep, I married a city boy...even still, I always had my horses out in the country and we spent alot time here..we moved back a few years ago and now that we're raising our grandson I couldn't ask for anywhere better to be...he wears his camo pants, can't wait to learn to bow hunt, loves to pick his own veggies for dinner, can drive a 4 wheeler and thinks he can handle the tractor!  He head butts with the goats, knows which 'weed' to pull, loves the mudd and loves to pee outside. I like the convenience of the city but it could never compare to the stars of a country night!!  Bonfires, hayrides, the smell of fresh cut hay, the sound of the grain mill cutting and mixing grain....well, there's just nothing better.  Here in Cohoctah, everybody knows everybody...and that ladies...is a good thing!!!

  • Welcome to all of you. It's nice to "meet" you all. I'm sure we all have stories to share so check in often and start posting. We have an unofficial "goal" to leave no post unresponded to, so when you see a new post or one with no replies please be a good neighbour and add a thought or two. Help me spread the word about the group to other Moms you may meet. Thank You Robin

  • Hey, I'm Kimberly, I live outside of Madison, MO (little town of about 500). We have almost 7 acres so we dont really farm, but still...we're out in the country!  I grew up in a nearby town with a only slightly higher population and my husband grew up on a farm just on the other side of Madison. Though this is such a small, tight-knit community we somehow never met until I was 21 and he was 26. I was actually living in the larger town/city/whatever  about 15 miles from here. BTW it didnt take me long to know that "city life" is not for me! So after we got married we bought this place and added a couple of kids to our little family and now we have 2 kids, 3 dogs, 6 guineas, and a miniature horse. It's our little fun spot of land! I do grow a garden and can/freeze fruits and veggies. I always hated doing that when I was growing up and now I plan and look forward to it every year...funny how things change, isnt it? My husband is self-employed working construction and I'm a SAHM. To me, this is just the way life should be!

So, technically I don't belong in this group, but soon.  My son and (11 month old) daughter (Mia) both wear camoflague and like to play in the dirt, etc.  Everytime my son sees a deer, he makes shooting noises.  He can't wait to go hunt with Daddy...
    Nice to meet all yall!
    Kate

You are more than welcome here. It's good to meet you. Post us a pic of your kids!

  • Hi I am Tanya! I am a SAHM of 2 girls ages 1 and 2. Currently we are haying 2 fields. We live on 80 acres. The front half is all swamp land and the back half is mainly pines except for the two hay fields.  We have a small garden that we experimented with this year, We now know what we have to do different. I would eventually like to get a goat and maybe some chickens. WE do have a lot of natual wildlife animals on the land so not sure how the chickens would do.

We have chickens but we basically had to spend a fortune on chicken wire to do it.  We built them a nice little house and then put in posts and ran wire so they have a very big area to run around in.  We also ran chicken wire around my garden and put a gate between the two areas so they can run in my garden in the spring.  The wire is a little over 6 foot tall all the way around and then we have an extra wire about two feet higher around the garden to keep the deer out.

  • I am mom to five (3 mine and two stepkids) plus the surrogate mom to a nephew from my first marriage. We live on 5 acres in rural Michigan.
We are very frugal and love it.
The closest store is about a 25 minutes drive one way. So when I go grocery shopping it's an all day excursion. If we forget something...oh, well. It'll have to wait. I only shop twice a month.
