Moving to the city to save the environment?

I'm sure sick of reading posts elsewhere about how people living in rural areas need to move to the city to save the environment. Now don't get me wrong I'm not anti-environment, but do these people not want to eat? I just read a post about high gas prices and how some people with they would go higher so people would consider public transit.
Can you imagine the price of food if the cost of gas goes much higher? They have to transport the food to the grocery store somehow. Not to mention I'm not going to sell my grain for free when I'm paying astronomical prices to fuel my tractor.
Sigh.

I feel your frustration! There are alwys more sides to the story! There is no perfect world - if we all do our small parts it will add up to a big bonus for the planet. I agree more people should use public transit, I agree in reducing packaging material on products etc. ... there is more than one answer for sure!
Just keep doing your part in your own way - some people never really get it! LOL

Ignorant people always have to find something(one) to blame.  So they find something they don't know about and use that.  It's like blaming the oil companies for high gas prices.  If the companie's weren't taxed so much by the gov't we wouldn't be getting the hand-me-downs and the high prices.  One of these days people are going to realize that they are getting all of their food from other countries with no idea what is in it.  Of course then it will be too late.  Sorry you are feeling the pain from uninformed people.

It's so sad to me that people don't think about where the food comes from.  Or where the trash goes.  Or that one single disaster could seriously disrupt their urban lives.  They take electricity for granted.

I've lived in the city, and out in the country, and living in the country is by far harder, takes more planning, and forethought.  But I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I hear you.  Loud and clear.

Just makes me want to be more self-sufficient all the more.  Raise my own fruits/veggies/meat/milk etc..

I don't see how moving to the city would save the enviroment....the thing that needs to happen is they need to quit developing so much!  Soon, we won't have any land left to farm crops and then we won't only have to depend on other countries for fuel but also food!  It would be really easy for terrorists to tap into our food supply now wouldn't it?

We live in the energy capital of the world.
with 8 out of the top 10 coal producing mines in the world.

My hubby works at a coal mine, he drives 85 miles one way to get to work.

I get so sick of these ppl even my sister saying that everyone needs to start car pooling.
Yeah right.
Then there are those who think SUV's need to be outlawed. Have you ever tried to drive done a dirt road in the spring? if you don't have a 4x4, you will be sleeping in your car.

ppl don't realize that with out coal, most of this country would not have power, no a/c, no lights, no heat,
We also provide a huge amount of Natural gas.

It makes me so mad,
Yes, I'm all for saving this great earth. I realize that in the yrs to come the coal will not being used any more, since many ppl don't like it.

But you can't pass laws for the whole country, you can't stop ppl from living in the country.

I recently had a little chit chat with some moms who were all upset about the wolves being taken off the endanger list. Since Ranchers will be able to get a permit and shot the wolves that leave the National park and attack their lively hood. These moms don't realize or understand that if allow the wolves to take over. then there will no more free range meat for them to eat.
They think that the wolves need to have more rights then us farmers and ranchers who live here and are trying to make a living.
It makes me so mad.
sorry, so long,
