Do you pack lunch for hubby in the field?

With field work started I was curious how you other farm wives fed hubby meals. In the past my mil has made lunch for the guys, but now that I am at home I would like to lessen her load. She does the basic sandwiches, fruit, chips, treats and water. Then she takes to each of them in the whatever field they are in. I am not sure if she will let me take over some days, but thought I could at least take care of dh. Do you pack a lunch that he takes with him in the morning or do you take him lunch? What are some of your classics? I am looking to expand my lunch menu. Overall just curious about different ways you farming wives handle lunch and dinner for that matter.

Yes, always try to keep something ready in the crockpot for when he is ready to come to the house ( usually can't tell when that is) but most of the time will pack a lunch & ice cold water jug. I am out there much of the time with him, so nice to be able to have something on hand when we can take a break or when we have a break down. Sandwiches, cheese, snacks, chips or crackers, homemade sweet treats.  Sometimes, leftovers from supper will go into lunch. If I happen to be able to  get back to the house to run errands, tools, ect.  I will fix the guys quick subs, pizza, italian or supremes (they only take about 5 minutes in the oven under broiler) they appreciate hot meals when pressed for time.  But, usually we end up eating later than we like too, so nice just to use my crockpot : )

I always take a lunch to him. I don't take supper out unless I know he's going to be extremely late. But I'll take out lunch/dinner. My fair is usually hotdogs (already prepared & wrapped in foil), hamburgers (same, wrapped in foil to keep hot), sandwiches for lunch(snack) - but NEVER dinner. Big no-no in my family!! :) Ummm, I think I've done things like fish sticks, chicken nuggets, pizza rolls, anything quick & portable. But I usually try to bring out sodas or a big water jug, cookies, or some other easy to eat dessert. Pudding cups, little cans of beans, things like that. Small & easily taken out to him wherever he may be!!

I actually am not doing it this year. It all falls back onto my MIL. I'm working this year for the first time in 4 years...I love taking meals out though - gives me more time with the husband!!

Good luck!!
