Anyone out there?

It's been awhile,  summer does keep us busy.  Here in the central states,  our summer has been very mild.  Wet,  but mild.  We even had to pull out the jackets in the beginning of July.  What Aug and Sept have in store for us only God knows.  But it has been a pleasure to spend time outdoors.

My garden has did real good for it being the first year in soil we didn't know if anything would grow in.  Steve said he didn't promise me anything for even corn and soybeans didn't do well where I put it in at.  But I mixed peat moss into it and it is growing great.  Tomatoes and green beans loaded.  I didn't get any lettuce to grow and radishes went to tops,  but I think they were planted in the wrong sign,  not so much the soil.  Then my sunflowers and marigolds are so tall,  and green onions did great too.  I don't know how the sweet corn will do.  Some of it didn't get even as tall as me,  but ears are coming on so we shall see.

Planning on vacation in Sept.  Will depend on the arrival of grandbaby this month,  if we get to go for more than a weekend.  Steve can't take time off if he has to have time off this month.   I had to retire/guit work this summer after injury from 3 years ago.  I stuck it out for 19 months til I re-hurt myself,  then had to give it up.  I miss it,  but I don't miss the pain after 8 hours a day.  I still have the pain,  but with setting my own pace and not having to lift like at job has made it more tolerable.

How has everyone been doing?  Hope to hear good news from your homes.

Our sweet corn didn't get real tall either last year (on good soil), but we had a lot of really good corn! This year, we planted quite a bit in the field along with our field corn, & the elevator that sprayed the field corn, sprayed the sweet corn, too! crying mini uggh!! Our garden did pretty good though, this year. We didn't plant much...so I can't say for sure! I only did potatoes, raspberries (of course, these have been here for about 3 years now), strawberries, and a few carrots. The carrots did really well! The raspberries did wonderful! (I was able to make 2 full raspberry pies & the DH had tons to eat plain & with icecream still, too!) the strawberries have been planted for about 2 or 3 years (I can't remember when for sure) but we haven't even gotten flowers off of them, much less berries! Any help here would be appreciated!!

The kids have had a decent summer...just wish it were warmer!! We've had their swimming pool set up since June & they've only swam about 4 times!! Not my idea of summer!! Like you said, they had to pull out sweatshirts in the beginning of july & for their first day of school (today), they wore sweatshirts! Actually, one child has the flu, & one has pink eye. So 2 of the 3 that were supposed to start today, are home with the 2 other little ones!! :( this is the first time I've EVER had to call the school on the first day of school & tell them that the kids are sick!!!

Back to school - back to the daily routines!!! I enjoy them being at school...it helps out at the house, too!!! have a great school year!!
