For years people(even my family) have tried to get me to drug my son, Christian. He has tourettes, ADHD, OCD, and PDD. They said he would never do any good in school and he has no attention span and he can't control himself and hes annoying and frustrating, he needs meds to get him to sit down and learn and so on and so on. In first grade he got a para and some occomidations were made, second grade they ended up putting him in his own room with his own teacher with half days, third grade (new school) they had him in the resource room most of the time he would need OT breaks constantly couldn't eat with his own class, his days were marked off in 10 min. periods and his goal was to get a 65% for the day and he rarely got there and he still had half days and a para. he is now 10 and in fourth grade, he started the year a little bumpy then they changed his para (we never liked his other para she was mean and crittical) to a young guy and he got his full days back. Now its like a new child! we have worked with him on controling himself the whole time and its like this year it just clicked! Now he is getting 100% days most of the time has his full days is in after school sports, hes getting his work done before everyone in the class and hes choosing when he thinks he needs to take a break to chill out so they don't have to make him leave and make a big sceen. I really believe all it took was some maturity and understanding and the right people encouraging and helping him and now hes almost completely independant! And we did it all with NO DRUGS! I did modify his diet and give him some supplements but I think he just got old enough to learn how to control himself and start to make his life easier on himself! So if your struggling with your child and trying not to give them drugs there is hope. They just need to grow up alittle and learn how to help themselves.
