My name is Jessica and I have a 6 year old little boy who just recently started 1st grade. Oh gosh where do I start with him!!! Dominick has always been a very happy go lucky... energetic little one but recently I have been noticing certain behaviors that were starting to concern me. He talks all the time, he interupts everyone, at the dinner table he goes back and forth between standing and sitting... etc. At first I thought maybe he had too much energy because he wasn't getting enough excercise or getting enough sleep at night or waking up to early so we started putting him to bed at 8 and he would usually be asleep by 8:30pm. That didn't help anything. Anyways - the list goes on and on and just recently it donned on me that maybe this was ADHD. So over the next few days I got online and checked into it. Every symptom of ADHD is a symptom that Dom has. Since I felt that my suspisions were probably right I decided to call his pediatrician. They have put me in touch with a Psychiatrist for testing. I have always been against using medication to treat this problem. But I am lost as to what to use or what to do. Not only is this affecting his home life he is starting to fall behind in school... and its happening quickly. Just two weeks ago his teacher and I had a conference and she said that he was not eligable for Title One (which is a reading program) because he was on grade level with his reading but two weeks later she sends a note home saying that he is eligable now (???) Which confused me. Does that mean he is falling behind that quickly... and yes thats what it means. I'm starting to worry. Does anyone know of a good natural "treatment"? What should I do?

I recently went to the library and checked out like 9 books to help me with this issue.

I have read books in the past but my son is off the charts lately with his impulsivity and lack of attention.

Anyway...look up diet.

We are going au natural in this house. we have been avoiding man made preservatives, colorings additives for a few years now. but, once he started school he a few weeks ago I did not know what to do with him. I think it is the food he eats at school. So now I am buying organic seasonings and seasoning his food myself. making everything that I can. making pizza dough. buying the NO high fructose corn syrup breads.

he seems much calmer but, I also took him off his meds recently. I would use the internet to do as much research as you can.

keep me posted. I need as much help as you do.

Hi, my name is Taci.  I have an 8 yr old just dx with ADHD.  I find it very hard on the heart for me to hear this.  However, like you I have noticed the sx myself for awhile.  I have done extensive research myself and just came across L-theanine on you tube.  I found that that is all Japan uses for ADHD, and China even puts it in their food as a booster for the mind.  I have ordered some from jigsaw (or something like that).  I feel that it is at least worth a try.  I have tried Brightspark, it seemed to work for a while but now he is always in trouble.  Good luck to you and your little one.

Hi I am new here.  I have a daughter 9 with ADHD, ODD, asthma, allergies, chronic sinusitis and a son 8 with ADD and coping problems.  They are both on meds because I tried fish oil, Attend, behavioral treatments, limiting sugar.  It all worked for a while then nothing.  The meds helped but my son was losing weight and my daughter was still angry.  A friend suggested a nutrition program through a nutritionist/homeopathic.  She had used her and healed herself and her kids.  So being at the side of a cliff and ready to throw myself off, I decided to try it.  The nutritionist sends a test kit for urine and saliva, you collect the samples and send them back.  From the results she devises an individual nutrition program for each child.  My kids it turned out have Candida (yeast overgrowth).  If you are not familiar with the symptoms of Candida they are almost identical to ADHD/ADD.  They also had cerebral allergies, which in my kids helps manifest the inattention.  The nutritionist believes that she can heal these kids and thus eliminate the ADHD/ADD.  The key is to remove the offending item.  My kids were sensitive to dyes, preservatives, and certain chemicals.  They eat no milk products, no wheat, no sugar, no soy, no preservatives, no dyes and no nitrates, sulfates.  They are in the 12th week and I have seen changes as early as 3 weeks.  My daughters anger dissipates quicker and my son concentrates better in school.  They both had dark circles under their eyes and they are fading.  Part of the program is to remove all toxic chemicals from the house.  I changed soaps, cleaners, laundry soap, removed air fresheners and scented candles.  Once I did this my daughters cough was gone and she sneezes a lot less.

I have eaten the same things as my kids and I have lost 9 lbs and feel so much better.  I no longer have sinus problems and have more energy than I have had in quite a while.

Along with the food restrictions, the kids take vitamins and homeopathic medicine 3 times a day.  They take their lunches to school and I have found non wheat bread that they like.

This has required time and effort on my part, but to see the results is worth it.  It was hard listening to Drs and friends say it was a waste of time.   I am looking for ward to the day I can take my kids to the Peds office and say   "Look, it did work!"

How did you find a nutritionist/homeopathic doctor who helped you?  I would really like to get him tested like you did with the saliva and urine test.  I just recently read a book and did a lot of research on foods, and have changed to all organic food and no perservatives, plus added vitamins but I would like a little help.  Thanks

Dena

Dena,

Sorry I have not been on in a while.  Anyone can use the nutritionist/naturopath.  She does everything through the mail and over the phone.  She uses homeopathic meds, vitamins and food restrictions.

An update, my daughter received 5 A's and B's on her report card.  This is the first time in 3 years that she did not get D's and U's!  Thanks to the homeoptahic meds she is now off her asthma inhalers.  She had a cold 2 weeks ago and had no respiratory problems.  Last spring she ended up in the ICU!  The only change I have made is the nutrition program and I give that all the credit!

If you are intersested leave me a message.

I give my son omega 3,6,9 (he has never said anything about a fish taste), filoc acid, Calm Child and a multi vit. in the morning and the same at night except insted of the calm child a melatonin. There are diets, massage therapy, chiroprators. what I tell all newbees is RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!!!!! there are new studies all the time with new vitamins and diets and suppliments plus old ones you just haven't heard of yet. phyciatrists will just try to give you meds. a nerophycologist is who specialises in ADHD because its all in the brain. Most doctors don't have the right knolage even if they think they do. I have been to so many doctors its rediculous but it helped me to see that everyone will tell you something different so its hard to no who to listen to. I fight with my doctors because they push meds so heavly and I won't do it. To me my son yes has a lot of energy and flies off the handle  and its hard to deal with some days but i feel thats meds are the easy way out to mask the symptoms and not address the real problem thats going on in his brain. I tell people I am not going to medicate my son just so they don't have to deal with it because at the end of the day they don't have to see the side effects of the meds they don't have to feel like a terrible mother because the meds you put him on gave him heart problems or caused him to commit suicide. ITs not worth it to me.

I understand what you are going through. My son, Titus, is also 6 and he was tested by his school councelor this year.  Titus does all the same things your Dom does.  I am trying also to find some alternatives to help him.  Right now we do not have insurance, but I have noticed that word puzzles and books are helping Titus for now.  Titus just got put in ISS this week for threatening a little girl @ school.  From what I've read online anger issues are also a problem.  I know it can be tough and confusing at times.  Just hang in there and don't lose your patience.

good for you, as doctors are great for alot of stuff - tons of them have no natural background.  They have studied and studied about drugs.  All the doctors i have been to want nothing to do with non medical treatment.  I have five kids two of which are ADHD and also more so myself.  I think along with an amazing diet (which is soo hard to follow - especially when they are teens).  but also it is important to teach them how to handle themselves - to think constantly before doing.  Also a big thing i find is they are very hard on there younger sibling.  As what i have learned from my ADHD son - has given me great insight into myself.  And how drugs would never be the answer.  Also teaching the how to cope in situations.  WE constatnly role play with him - to prepare him for what might happen and proper things to say.  And watching that we don't put him in a mood and how to help them get out of it.  No we will not always be around for them - but that is why it is important to teach them - also they are actually very gifted spiritual, creative children.  When in there own skin are amazing to be around.  And when they are or have eaten or on the edge - absoultely horrible to be around.  Happy to hear there are more people who are not jumping to drugs and learning the helath beneifts to awesome eating.  Be sure to check ut info on raw eating, green smoothies and juicing.

I am a mother of five kids - two of them being ADHD.  15 and a four year old.  I am 100% against meds.  I started a website to talk about using an alternative.  I go by diet.  We had him tested for food sensitivities.  We did that as i tried it on him when he was young and again a few years ago.  WE used that over food allergies as i think the allergies is more when they have a huge reaction.  anyway it is the typical with a few different ones.  But cows and goat dairy, sugar (excluding honey, agave nectar, maple syrup and we are now trying out organic palm sugar), dyes, caffeine, really anything processed.  The worst is watching for all the sugar, it is in bread and pretty much everything.  It is a challenge as nothing can really be ordered or fast food.  Then it is the whole thing of realizing the issues and the way they deal with things.  My son had a huge issue with substitute.  WE have illuminated it all form our whole family.  It was amazing to see the change in all of us.  As fpr me it was like my son it was mentality. for my husband it was things like no more gas - drinking milk made for tons and tons of gas, and he would sweat like crazy that was gone - to a normal amount and also he was getting these huge boils on his back.

Anway as i said i have started a blog to try to find more parents who are trying to stay away from meds.  I did have one mom talk a lot about the meds and she had great points also. but for me meds were not a way - we didn't vacinate our kids and in 15 years have barely gone to the doctors and none of them have ever had medication.

stay strong.  visit my site and keep in touch would love to hear from you.
