Hi ladies today was my son second day of kindergarten, and I have to say it is really scary. I meet with the teacher. She said she never had a child in her class with a peanut allergy. SO I went through please don't have anyone sit by him that is having peanuts have kids wash there hands, so on.
Well today is made him sit a table by himself for snack time. Well when he came home he was upset crying that he hates school and that the teacher makes him sit by himself and told the kids that noone should touch him.
My heart was broken, I don't want him to start school hating it because of this stupid allergy. I know teacher is nervous so I am gonna ask her if she can at least some other kids that don't have nuts to sit with him. The principle is supposed to send out a letter to the class saying not to bring in peanuts or anything with peanuts in the class. Still noone got this letter.
I don't know what to do please givbe me some guidance.
We haven't reached that point yet so I have no advice. My girls are 2 1/2 and in daycare. Every kid has an assigned seat when they eat and a teacher sits by them to make sure they don't eat anyone's food. When kids bring treats in for birthdays, the girls just don't get them unless I was able to read labels prior to the treats being handed out.
I totally feel for you! My oldest (she's 15 now) has a DEADLY allergy to peanuts and we have gone through all of this too! In December my youngest (she's 9) was diagnosed with EE a chronic disease, which involves 10 different food allergies to date (dairy, wheat, corn, rice, soy, shellfish, cashews, peanuts, treenuts and egg) as well as chemical and environmental allergies.
What you need to understand, and I didn't until 2 weeks ago, is that YOU are your childs biggest advocate!!! He needs you more than you will ever know and you are a great Mom! Request a meeting with the following:the principal, the nurse and the head of the cafeteria as well as his teacher. Make sure that everyone is aware and demand that he not be treated differently!!! Our school now has peanut free rooms ... if your school doesn't it would be a great suggestion so that he is in with other children that suffer from the same thing.
Another issue I had was the teacher rewarding the class with a pizza/popcorn party for good behavior. Since when does food need to be a "prize"? Both being things Cassie is allergic to, the teacher is now required to give out a treat that she can have.
It's time our children stop being treated like they have the plague and time for sensitivity to come back into the classroom!
PLEASE feel free to pm me with any questions or if you just want to talk! GOOD LUCK!
thank you! We have to stick up and be the voice for our child. Alot of people just don't understand about allergies. Some even get mad about the peanut awareness.
The teacher now has noone bring in anything with Peanuts int he classroom
but they are allowed to have it in the lunch room. The policy is anyone who brings peanuts has to sit in the back of the table and kids witht he allergies sit in the fron every day every class.
There is a new boy that just came to out school that has a milk allergy a sever milk allergy that he needs an epi pen. I have been looking at labels and can not believe how many things have milk in it. I think in a way that is alot harder then peanuts.
I am sorry to her about you r daughters allergies that is a long list.
I am glad that I am finding people that know how I feel. Even my family members do not understand they even tease my son and having peanuts. I know it hurts him and he does not really like to be around them anymore.
Thanks for listening
