Hi all,

Let me say straight off, that I am a novelist, and I write for two publishers and one of those publishers is Harlequin.  Let me also say that nearly all of my friends are romance writers and amazing women (and moms).

You'd think that because I write romance novels (and women's fiction) for a living, I wouldn't want to read it in my free time but you're wrong.  I love romance, and I read everything....from paranormal (think Christine Feehan) to historical romance (like Stephanie Laurens and Eloisa James) to contemporary sexy romances (i.e. Carly Philips).

But the problem with discussing romance novels with my author friends is that they're....authors...and we can't seem to get a good juicy discussion going.  Instead we end of talking shop, like how to write better, or what our editor or agent wants us to do.  So I've started a book group here at CafeMom for moms who love to read, and chat about, the books they're reading.

Please jump in, post, introduce yourself. It's lonely being the only one here!

  • Katie,

welcome!  It's great to have you here.  You mentioned some great authors.  Incidentally, Debbie Macomber and Susan Mallery live near me and they're both such wonderful people, too.

    What are you reading now???

  • I'm reading Jane Porter's "Taken By The Highest Bidder" and I have to tell you that it's fantastic so far. Unfortunately I had hoped to have finished it by now but time just hasn't cooperated with me. I have to take the ferry over town today so I'll get a bit of reading time in today, yay!!

  • Hello!  I'm Andrea.  I'm a SAHM of two boys, wife of 10 years this month, a college student, and an aspiring romance writer (though that seems to be put aside while I'm in school).

I love reading romance.  It's my getaway from everything else going on.  I can get lost in the stories and forget everything that is going around me (sometimes that can be a problem...lol).

I tend to get on "author kicks", where I end up reading everything I can on one or two authors, then I move on to finding some more.  I've been through a bunch of Nora Roberts and Jayne Ann Krentz (may be starting on her Amanda Quick books soon though) and now I'm working through Linda Lael Miller and some of Mariah Stewart.  I've also picked up some others here and there looking for other interesting reads that I can start collecting later like Lori Foster, Judi McCoy and I found one by Erin McCarthy that was good, too.  I may try to find some more from her later, too.

  • Hello Everyone~

I've been meaning to reply and have finally found some time, YEAH!!!

I am a mother of 3 boys: ages 15, 9 and 6.  I'm recently divorced and just turned 40!!  (Ouch!!!)  Not sure if that's about the divorce or the age....

Reading is my passion!  I also love to write and am working on my first novel in my "spare time"... (Time, what is that?)  I work full-time out of the home, I'm going to school part-time and with my kids and home there's not much time left...

Some of my favorite writer's are:

    Jane Porter
    Jennifer Weiner
    Jennifer Crusie
    Debbie Macomber

My mom just sent me a couple of Susan Wiggs books, so I'm looking forward to diving into those....

I read a variety of authors ranging for Dan Browne to Self Help Books, but romance/chick lit is my favorite....

I'm looking forward to sharing ideas/views.... Hope everyone is enjoying their day!!

    Tracy

  • Jess, welcome, welcome, welcome!  Great to have you here.  Hope you feel comfortable jumping in and chatting whereever you want to.

I've been on deadline for a book and the writing is going so slow that I'm not online as I'd like to be.  I have to say, reading is so much more fun for me than writing lately!!!

  • Hi my name it Tina and I'm a stay at home mother of 2,  Anna age 6 and John age 2.  I have been reading romance novels for over 15 years, thats along time since I am only 28.  I LOVE them, they are only kind of book I will read.  I like historical novels the best.  Some of my favorite authors are

    - Julie Garwood (have read everyone of hers)
    - Julia Quinn (reading her old stuff now)
    - Lise Kleypas (wallflower books are great)
    - Johanna Lindsey ( the Malory novels)
    - Stephanie Laurens (reading the Cynster novels)
    - Karen Hawkins ( just found the Talisman Ring series)

Along with a few others I am always looking for new people to read.  And as you can see from the list above I read a lot of series.  I have a big family and I love the way family stories weave together.  In a series you don't have to leave the one s you love behind.  I also like books that make me laugh out loud.  So does any one know any other series out there right now?
