Hi all,

Let me say straight off, that I am a novelist, and I write for two publishers and one of those publishers is Harlequin.  Let me also say that nearly all of my friends are romance writers and amazing women (and moms).

You'd think that because I write romance novels (and women's fiction) for a living, I wouldn't want to read it in my free time but you're wrong.  I love romance, and I read everything....from paranormal (think Christine Feehan) to historical romance (like Stephanie Laurens and Eloisa James) to contemporary sexy romances (i.e. Carly Philips).

But the problem with discussing romance novels with my author friends is that they're....authors...and we can't seem to get a good juicy discussion going.  Instead we end of talking shop, like how to write better, or what our editor or agent wants us to do.  So I've started a book group here at CafeMom for moms who love to read, and chat about, the books they're reading.

Please jump in, post, introduce yourself. It's lonely being the only one here!

I have been reading romance novels since I was early teen I guess.   I like the harlequin and Silhouette series, but also enjoy other romance and non-romance books..  Don't have a fav. author.

Glad to find a group to talk to about books.

  • Hey, I just started reading the Paranormal Romance novels by Lori Handeland in two weeks I have read all of her night creature novels except for the one that is comming out on the 31 of this month. I have never been one for romance but I tell you after reading her books I am hooked. I am 32 yrs.old I have been married for 13 yrs. and have 1 boy. I am a stay at home mom I homeschool my son most of the time we are constantly going. When I Lori Handelands books I get lost in them and tend to forget to do any housework or anything else. Since it's summer time right now it doesn't interfer with teaching my son but it interfers with everything else sometimes including sleep. These books are about woman who have basically not had a relationship in a long time and then the stumble into these gorgeous men that have a secret and they fall in love. The first one I read took place in Wisconsin where the female chracter is a police officer and they are having a rash of unexplained deaths and than the people disappear from the mourge when they are suppose to be dead. There is plenty of mystery, romance, and in my opinion sex scenes that will curl your toes, and get your juices flowing. I just started reading these novels and I can't get enough of them I'm always wanting more. I tried reading Nora Roberts and I couldn't get into them, now maybe I can I couldn't stomache The Harlequin Romances or the Silohouttes. I am willing to give them a try but I need a book that will hold my attention from beginning to the end any suggestions? Right now I am reading a Mystery by Lilian Jackson Braun.

  • Homeschool06, If you haven't read JR Ward yet, I think you'd love her books. Her Brotherhood is unbelievable and the four books are terrific. Start with the first and read in order if you can. I love them!!! Jane

If I see a book by Jessica Steele, I HAVE to buy it.  I am a HUGE fan.  I have over 50 romances stuffed around the house some i read over and over.. others i just need to get rid of lol. Another favorite author of mine is penny jordan.
I would love to be able to say i havewritten a novel, but i havent.  only in my head.  I am always searching for something different.. you know?  i have stuff written down everywhere. then i decide i am foolish lol.

  • It seems that there hasn't been any activity here in a few days, but I just found your group.  I'm still going back to see what you have all been reading and get caught up on the discussion.

Between getting married, having two kids, getting my degree, and having a house built, I haven't been able to read for pleasure in so long that I don't even remember any of the authors that I've read before.  I just started reading "Carolina Isle" by Jude Deveraux last week.  I ended up getting two of her books from the library because I found out that she lived in the town that my family is from in North Carolina and that she often references the places she lives in her books.  I was curious as to whether I would be able to identify anything.  Has anyone read anything by her?

I'm looking forward to reading a lot of the books that you have read and suggested.  And getting to know you all.

  • BlueEyes,

thank you so much for the compliment.  I'm so glad you liked my last book.  I'm on a fierce deadline at the moment to get Alpha Mom, my next chicklit/women's fiction novel done, and it's lots of long hours at my desk.  Your praise inspires me!  Thanks again and keep on reading!  :)

  • Riss, welcome and glad you're here!  This board is kind of sleepy and sometimes slow but we all love romance and we're great about sharing fav books and authors.  Feel free to start a topic,, jump in on any topic, and share your favorite reads.

  • Quoting tmh256:

I also like books that make me laugh out loud.  So does any one know any other series out there right now?
I know of an author that will make you laugh so hard you might pee your pants, but she doesn't do historical romance.  Try the Stephanie Plum novels written by Janet Evanovitch.  I have read all of them.  They are about a female bounty hunter that really has no business being a bounty hunter if you get my drift.  She is really accident prone.  I really recommend these books to anyone who has a sense of humor.

  • Hey yall.  I am an almost 26 year old SAHM to three kids aged 5,3, and 1 and proud military wife.  I absolutely love reading.  It is the only way I can keep my sanity.  I mostly read romantic suspence, but I also read some paranormal thanks to my friend and fellow SAHM.  Some of my favorite authors are:

                                  Julie Garwood
                                  Karen Robards
                                  Katie MacAlister
                                  Lisa Gardner
                                  Lora Leigh
                                  Lisa Jackson

Right now I am reading the Blood Ties series by Jennifer Armintrout.

    Happy reading,
    Yvonne
