I just thought I'd take a poll, we're all adults here and can freely speak our minds.  I'd love to hear what you think either way.

  • I think erotica is just as much literature as any romance- just a little spicier. I don't read much of it but I don't think badly of people who do. The reason I don't read much is because the ones I have read have been mostly about sex and I guess I like a little more story along with the sex :D

  • I think erotica can be just as good as any straight romance novel. I actually own quite a bit. The only problem I have is a lot of authors will put in ONLY sex with a very weak plotline. There are some authors who keep true to their stories - making you care about the characters (Like Lora Leigh's Breeds Series) they just happen to have really hot sex.

  • I don't believe in censoring peoples' choice in reading, and I've never had a problem with spicier stories, including some pretty hot erotica, but there is some I just don't enjoy as much as others, and maybe it comes down to plot and character development.

And maybe this is way off topic, but I think its important for a woman to have a sex drive, especially after she's married with kids.  Sometimes the guys out there say women aren't interested, and I think women would be, if lovemaking was sensual and imaginative and not the same old routine.  And if reading erotica, or sexier romances, puts a woman in the mood than I think its a win win for all...

But just my two cents.  :)

  • okay here's what i think and i come from a VERY CONSERVATIVE BACKGROUND and i discovered romance books while i was in hugh school and in the last 17 years have read jsut about everything at least once. If the story line is good and not just sex than hot awesome sex is great however if teh book could be a penthouse letter and has absolutley no story line than I think it is ladies porn. I will say this though that my husband knows which authors have the hot scenes in them and so he will glance over my shoulder and when he sees that it is a sex scene he moves in. It's great.

Sometimes I think that the authors outsisde of the US are a little racier when they first get published here in the states but normally tone it doen after a couple of books come out.

  • I think some of erotica books are very well written. I've only read a few of this type. Usually I like a good romance suspense novel.

  • I agree with many of the others who have responded to this post...as long as there's a good story behind it, I like erotica/romantica just as much as regular romance novels.  On the other hand, even if it's got a decent plot and strong characters, I'm not really wild about books that feature heavy use of profanity just for the sake of making the story seem hotter.  (A little bit here and there, if it fits the mood of the scene, is OK, but come on...every other word doesn't need to be f***!)

I highly recommend "Somebody's Lover" by Jasmine Haynes.  That was the first one I ever read, and it completely changed my opinion about them.

  • I love erotica.  But like other's have said, I need a story line.  So my favorite Erotica author's are Lora Leigh, Nicole Austin, and Emma Holly...they usually always have a good story line and some suspense in them as well.
