Roughly how many books do you own?

Do you purchase them new, used, or borrow from library?

If you buy them, what do you do with them when you finish reading them -- keep or re-sell?

Just thought it would be interesting to see what everyone does with their books.  :)  Here are my answers to the above...

~ I have a total of about 60 books in my collection right now (some read, some unread).

~ I purchase them new.

~ So far I've kept everything I've read, but there are a few I'd be willing to part with.  The ones I'm sure I'll never read again.

  • I have around 200 books.  I buy most of my books.  I keep the ones that I will re-read and I give away the ones that I found to be just okay.

  • I'm not sure of the exact count. I have two ceiling-length bookcases, 3 rows deep and 2 high, I have one small bookcase full, 1 deep and I have my keepers, a suitcase full. I know A LOT. lol. I read my books as fast as I can, sometimes it's a little harder after a really great book to move on for a couple days. Those I keep, I set aside, the others I take to a used book store or library for their sales, where is which I get most of my books. I do buy new ones by my favorite authors as there's always a chance I'll miss them. In truth, I could probably almost open my own book store. lol.

  • I've got nothing compared to you ladies. About 30 I'd say. I get stuck on a particular author and buy up 3 or 4 books at a time until I have them all. I started with Eloisa james, and bought all of hers, now I'm onto johanna Lindsey. I'll buy new or used it doesn't matter to me, and I keep them. I lend them to friends.

when i can't afford to buy them, I go to the library and even the ones I've read but don't own, I plan to buy just to have a complete collection.

  • I have not counted my books, my best guess is that I have 200-300 books!   Alot of them I bought new, some were gifts, and some I bought used.  I do trade books with my family/friends too.

Each month I buy my new release books, and if I really like them I keep them.  If they are ok, but not what I would read again then I list them at a swap site or trade them to family/friends.

I am at the point where i can't keep everything, space is limited so I have to be picky about what I keep.

Johanna Lindsey is great!  I have all of her books, except for maybe 3 or 4 of her latest ones, which I plan to buy.  I love her writing style and her characters.

Roughly how many books do you own?  200+ on my TBR shelf plus 100+ on my re-read shelf

Do you purchase them new, used, or borrow from library?  All the above. I prefer to buy my books but have been using the library a lot.

If you buy them, what do you do with them when you finish reading them -- keep or re-sell?  I keep some of my books and either trade or donate the rest.

  • I will conservatively guess around 250.  Those are NOT all romances, obviously... that's my entire collection.

For the past 3 years, my preferred method of obtaining books is used on Amazon.

I only sell or give away a book if I didn't like it and know I won't read it again.

  • **Roughly how many books do you own?

Right now around 70 i think, it changes frequently :o)

**Do you purchase them new, used, or borrow from library?

All the above! I love used books :o) It's rare that i buy new..when i can read it in two days or less it feels like a waste of money...but sometimes i have to finish a series or one just catches my eye and i have to buy it. I love the library too...i just hate how you have to give them back, haha.

**If you buy them, what do you do with them when you finish reading them -- keep or re-sell?

If i think there is any possibility i'll re-read then i will keep it or if it's part of a series i will keep it till i'm finished with them all, just in case. and so-so books i take to the used book store for more trade-ins.

  • I think I have something roughly around 60-70 books (?).  However, I only buy/keep the books that really get to me/ones I truly LOVE (not a lot of storage room in our small home).  They're a mixture of new & used books and hard & paper backs.  I, too, think it's a waste of money to buy new books that I'll read in 2-3 days, unless it's one that I'll read over and over throughout the coming years.  Therefore, I normally get my books from a combination of the library and a paperback excahnge.  I've always got a stack of books to choose from depending on my mood.

I also get my books on CD from the library and upload them into my iTunes so I can listen to them on my iPod at work.  It's wonderful to be able to read one book and relive another book that I love.

  • Wow, I guess I'm the collector. I have over 1,000 books in my collection.  I do go back and read so many of them.  I would say that 95% of them are romance novels.  I do buy new but our library has books that are sold and the money goes back to the library.  You can buy paperbacks for a quarter.  Some of the books are loaned out but mostly I enjoy keeping them and reading.  Some day maybe I'll get my own library in my house. Just a dream.
