I need to have at least 3 people who aren't in their first year to answer some questions. It doesn't matter what year you are as long as not first.
these are the questions I need answered
a Did you own your own computing equipment, or did you use your college's equipement when you first started school?Would you recommend I do the same?
b Did you need to upgrade your computer equipement before you came to college? How did you do this?
c.Was the computer you used in your first year of college able to handle your workload in later years?
d.If you used one computer, what upgrades did you need to perform?
e.If you had to buy a new computer, how much money did you budget and how much did you spend? What did you do with your old computer?
I can answer these for when I was in college (graduated in 2004) Hope it helps...
a Did you own your own computing equipment, or did you use your college's equipement when you first started school?Would you recommend I do the same? I had a home computer but the college's computer lab was more advanced. I used both my home and the college's lab about 50/50
b Did you need to upgrade your computer equipement before you came to college? How did you do this? I didn't need to upgrade, I just had to live with a slower computer and internet connection. I did have to install Microsoft Office though, so I guess that is sort of an upgrade. Any other software I installed usually came with text books or were free downloads.
c.Was the computer you used in your first year of college able to handle your workload in later years? No, I eventually needed to get a better computer because of a virus that destroyed my old one. If not for the virus though, the old computer would have worked fine for writing essays.
d.If you used one computer, what upgrades did you need to perform? added programs
e.If you had to buy a new computer, how much money did you budget and how much did you spend? What did you do with your old computer?
I bought a nice toshiba laptop towards the end as a reward and shelled out about $1400 for it. It has since been stolen. I am using my old computer. With a family I cannot afford to spend that kind of money on a replacement laptop.
I graduated in 2000. Sorry, I'm not much help.
a Did you own your own computing equipment, or did you use your college's equipement when you first started school?Would you recommend I do the same?
No, I used computer labs. I guess it depends on your major and your school. My school had so many labs, I never felt the need to keep my own. I was a music education major, though- not as much computer work as many majors.
b Did you need to upgrade your computer equipement before you came to college? How did you do this?
NA
c.Was the computer you used in your first year of college able to handle your workload in later years?
NA
d.If you used one computer, what upgrades did you need to perform?
NA
e.If you had to buy a new computer, how much money did you budget and how much did you spend? What did you do with your old computer?
NA
I went to vocational school to get started on my associates, i was there for 2 yrs, now i am at an onine university but it is my first year here, so i am not sure if i can help or not, but i will go ahead and try :) if not just tell me and i will delete my post :)
a Did you own your own computing equipment, or did you use your college's equipement when you first started school?Would you recommend I do the same?
when i first started school i used the school's equipment, but in the middle of my first year i got my own computing equipment. and if your school is setup like my old vocational school i would recommend using your own equipment. they had it set up to where every time you turned off your computer everything was wiped fromt he hard drive
b Did you need to upgrade your computer equipement before you came to college? How did you do this?
when i first bought my computer i needed to load microsoft 2003, i just bought the cds and followed instructions (i think geek squad and everyone else is so outrageous on their costs with just installing the it...i would only charge $10 to do that). anyways after i went from vocation al school to online i had to upgrade my stuff, i went online to the sites like adobe reader flash and other sites that needed to be updated to use them, they have the options on their websites to update them so it was pretty easy
c.Was the computer you used in your first year of college able to handle your workload in later years?
my computer was able to handle workload later, but i caught a virus and my other laptop isnt working still, so i would suggest getting an antivirus and antispyware on your comptuer
d.If you used one computer, what upgrades did you need to perform?
just a few minor things like adobe reader and flash
e.If you had to buy a new computer, how much money did you budget and how much did you spend? What did you do with your old computer?
i really didn't budget my husband was making enough money at the time that i just went there and shopped around. i bought the computer for $600 but put insurance on it also so no matter what kind of issue i have with it, it is covered. so in the end it cost a little over 1,000. my old computer is still sitting here, my husband wants to fix it so he can play multiplayer games on it with his friends so he doesn't have to share his...lol
