We live on an overseas base. For the past few years the SLO of the school has been trying to get the homeschoolers to register with the school. It hasn't been passed yet, but this is what's in the new instruction.

Education.  All children not otherwise exempted between the ages of six and 18 years are subject to compulsory full time education.  It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to ensure that their child participates for the length of the school day.  Home schooling will be conducted during the same hours as DoDDS and comply with reference (e).  All home-schooled children must be registered with the principal of the appropriate school.  Registration will include the course of study, the name(s) of the instructor(s), location of where home schooling will take place and notice of what auxiliary services are being requested.  Home-schooled students are eligible to use auxiliary services, including use of academic resources, access to the school library, after-hours use of school facilities, and participation in music, sports, and other extracurricular and interscholastic activities.  Regardless of whether auxiliary services are used or not, home schooled children will comply with the Student Handbook regarding standards of conduct.  DoDDS will have primary responsibility for evaluating home schooling programs.  Cases of suspected educational neglect will be referred to Family Advocacy.  A substantiated case of educational neglect where member refuses to take remedial action constitutes a basis for revocation of command sponsorship.  Notwithstanding DoDDS regulations, parents will not withdraw a child from school except for good cause, which should normally be limited to medical/dental appointments, illness, funerals of immediate family members, religious holidays, or other justifiable cause.  The principal or his/her delegate must approve absences.

Our homeschool president has contacted HSLDA about this and they will handle it. I'm asking for prayers that this is God's will for it not to go through. I'm not really wanting to register my kid with the school nor am I willing to adhere to their school hours!

Thank you!

God bless!

I don't blame you!!! My DH was in the Marine Corps up until just before our oldest was born, and is currently applying for Army OCS.  This is one thing we have discussed in great detail: if we were to be stationed in a place where homeschooling is made very difficult, what would we do? Our decision was, as hard as it would be, he would send me and the kids bcak to my parents to stay until he either PCSd or laws/regulations were eased up.

I will be praying for you, that God will work on the SLO's heart, and that HE will protect you and your children...regardless of if the rules/regulations are changed or not.

Thank you!

I talked with our homeschool president and the instruction is being rewritten. Thank you God!! I also found out that two of our homeschooling dads work closely with the CO so they were able to him. The CO actually didn't know anything about this. It had the XO signiture on it, so no one knows why it was written up. Luckly CO likes homeschooling, knowing that makes me feel a lot better about homeschooling here.

We had our monthy meeting tonight and come to find out our SLO had never heard of unschooling and just couldn't understand why our group didn't make sure people use credited curriculums. So he had a whole lot to take in about homeschooling today. lol

I'm just thanking God that everything turned out well!
