DS1 will be 5 in April. DD who is my oldest is only 14 months older than him. I plan on getting her a first grade curriculum. DS isn't a genius or anything, but he's right there with her as far as reading, math, etc. Should I just go ahead and start him with Grad 1 stuff as well? And will I need to order 2 curricula?
I would assume that could vary based on the curriculum you've chosen. With Abeka, you'd need 2 sets of student workbooks, but just one of everything else. I guess just whatever parts of the curriculum they will actually be writing on (like worksheets), get 2.
The beauty of homeschooling is to adjust to your child's individual learning pace!!
There's never a silly question when it comes to educating your children. :) I have driven all the other home school parents in our church and family crazy with all my questions over the past year, but I feel very prepared to "officially" start now. (We've been doing kindergarten, but we won't be official with the county until August, which is when my oldest boy will be required to be in school somewhere.) :)
I would try to teach them together, why not? will make your efforts easier and all. I feel the early years are pretty similar anyway, from K-2nd.
We didn't alway worry about grade level stuff when teaching mine that young. For example, my three year old is sometimes doing simple 1st grade stuff, and then we go down to young prek stuff.
I only use a curriculum for phonics an hand writing, then we throw together fun workbooks, games, reading, etc... for the kg and first grade years anyway. We don't start an official english til the third grade year.
Lots of madlibs, journaling, science play, math games, etc...
