I was wondering if anyone uses the ACE curriculum, I am looking at getting it for my 6th grade son. Since he hates to do anything that looks remotely like school work, hates to read, hates to work independently, hates to write, etc. I just don't know what else to do. We have tried several different things this year, Connections Academy, unschooling, time 4 learning, our own things, etc he doesn't like any of it. We just started Learning Adventures unit study after two days he hates this too and will not do any thing unless I am right there, it's not that he can't do most of it, it's just he won't no matter what punishment I give him.
I figured with the ACE lessons I can give it to him and tell him he either does it or he can sit there all day, the choice is his, if he truly needs help then he can ask. I don't know what his problem is, and I am not about to just let him sit around all day play video games, watching tv, playing with lego's etc. He needs to be doing some type of school work. It's either that or I put him back into a really crappy PS and I really don't want to do that. He was PS up until last year.
Another curriculum to consider is Lifepac. I believe the layout is similar to ACE. My boys are using it for science this year and seem to like it ok. We are planning on using lifepac for the majority of the boys' curriculum next year.
My daughter uss abeka, but she is younger. Your son probably would not do well with that since he is already giving you a hard time. It is not a self-paced curriculum.
Hi! I use ACE for history, english, and spelling :) We home-school 4 children and to me it was a life saver! The older children can do it on their own, grade their own work etc.. while I work with the younger ones. We DO like it :) BUT your child has to be motivated to do the work. Or like you said , sit there :) So the choice is his! Christianbook.com sells it and sometimes they have a free shipping code (if you order directly fron ACE, there will be a shipping charge:) Hope this helps!! :) Pam<><
