federal laws for homeschooling?

I am on FB and one of my friends said that the HSLDA is trying to get federal laws for homeschoolers. She goes on to say that the founding fathers never meant for our rights to be parents and teachers of our children to be ruled by the federal government.   Has anyone else heard this? do you agree or disagree? I do not know how to bring that article here. There is also an article from WPA (wisconsin Parents association) Another homeschooling advocate in my state.   If anyone can tell me how to bring that on to here I can do it.

This article is alarming.  Attorney General Holder is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors against the citizens of the United States in many other instances and he looks to try to usurp parental choice...again.  These are his words in this case of a homeschooling family.  HE is the problem here, NOT the HSLDA.  I need to look at the other article someone posted but here is part of Holder's alarming statement:

"Let’s assess the position of the United States government on the face of its argument: a nation violates no one’s rights if it bans homeschooling entirely. There are two major portions of constitutional rights of citizens – fundamental liberties and equal protection.

"The U.S. Attorney General has said this about homeschooling. There is no fundamental liberty to homeschool. So long as a government bans homeschooling broadly and equally, there is no violation of your rights.”

PLEASE HOLDER TRY TO PULL THIS ON NATURAL BORN AMERICAN HOMESCHOOL FAMILIES.  IT WILL NOT be fun for you!  Kind of like taking away firearms will not be pleasant either!  Americans will continue to demand their Constitutional rights. They are waking up a very, very long slumbering giant.  More people are paying attention....

Good for you!  Many American families will fall off of the radar and go into hiding if government tries to illegally insert itself further into our lives. We are the tax payers.  Do you want to tick us off to the point we go in hiding????  This government is running amok and has no regard for current laws what so ever!  I still haven't seen an article that says the HSLDA is supporting this, and until I do, I will assume they are still protecting the rights of homeshcooling families nation-wide.  My child will not be indoctrinated in a school and I teach him academically WAY better than the public school system.  He also has the opportunity to grow in Christ, grow in character, and develop life skills. This is not something public schools excel at in any manner.

I did my first 12 years or so of home educating in TX.  I am now in AR in which we are supposed to let the school know that we are home educating and test. Sorry, I don't do it.   If they ever were to come and tell us we have to register our child with them we would just move again.

My thoughts exactly.  And I will NOT cooperate if anyone attempts to take away my right to educate my child (state, federal, etc).  I live in Texas and case law protects my rights here, besides the fact that new legislation would infringe on our Constitutional right to the pursuit of happiness. Is this really what is the most important priority for the federal government???? They should work on the PUBLIC SCHOOLS and their failures BEFORE they take on a bunch of happy, self-sufficient homeschool families.

I'd be very interested in seeing that article if the HSLDA is indeed pushing this.  You can go to the article and copy and paste the URL link so we can find the article you are talking about.

Haven't heard anything about that (whether it is true or not) but I am with your friend.  My children belong to me and my hubby (and He who gave them to us to raise) and NOT to the government (state or federal).

Yes, I looked at the article and also the link to the HSLDA's response to any changes in Wisconsin law.

The HSLDA is doing their job to protect our freedoms and they use state and federal Constitutions to help in their defense of our rights as parents.  I still haven't seen anything that the HSLDA is doing that I deem inappropriate.

The things going on at the state and federal level should be fought and get much resistance from parents and parent groups.  Refuse to give up your right to raise your kiddo how you see fit.
