I am mad as HECK!!!!
I'm getting degreed in the Human Services field which of course requires us to use a number of different textbooks.
I have just paid almost $200.00 for a book on Cultural Diversity for it to tell me that all Black (African Americans) are a product of inbreeding and are genetically "different" from all other people.
I mean WTF (What The Freak)??????
You better believe the author, the department head and the Chancellor will be hearing from me.
OH Yeah....and to make matters worse this is the 2nd book like this I have had to get for this program. The 1st book said that the only thing a person needs to know about the Black (African American) culture is that we all believe in God (or are spiritual) and have HIV!!! Can you imagine that?
Needless to say...I took this matter up with the aforementioned people who did respond appropriately and changed the book. But I'm wondering who the heck is screening these books and how do they keep getting in?
Women of Color who are in school...please pay attention to what your textbook is saying and make it a point not to let it ride if it's detrimental to us.

That is horrible. I'm a college mom and i can't believe those books are in college. They would of still been there if haven't spoke up. I would of voice my opinion too if i come across something like that. unbelievable in this day of age. I'm a nursing student so i would be on the look out.
Thanks for standing up for us. It olsy takes one person to stand up and the school will change things. To many people stand for nothing. I am going into social work as well and I had a ruff time at my new school. We have to take a class about race and it was not easy. There was me, and two people that were mixed. We all would look at each other a laugh. The things white people say about us is crazy. We would take turns putting them in their place.

Put the name of the textbook, the publisher and all other pertinent information on blast, yes one person can start a change but as a unit we can move mountains! Also, what institution are you studying at and is the book still being sold? If so does your school have a black student assoc.? Many hisorically white colleges/universities have them, if yours does you need to go to them w/the matter and basically rally up the minorities on your campus b/c if this is the 2nd time you've had this problem w/ a text book, there's a serious problem w/your school!
Thank you for that information and no...mine does not have one that I am aware of. But I am the Secretary for our Human Services Club and I will be utilizing them to put those books on blast!
The Spirit of The Lord says so...
class action suit... but we are the by products, of selected breding and rape ( we not white and have sex with our relatives willingly) but slave owners wanted the strongest the fastest and the biggest slaves around, and thats why if we as a people put our mind to it we could take anything and make it our own... even hockey if it wasn't so cold....
but yea I am pissed, maybe you read it out of context but I doubt it.... really you should sue the company, and have you tried online to buy your books, you might find it used or an older eddtion

My sister. Keep your head leveled because they already think all black women are crazy and we take everything personal. I am a college student also. Talking with Career services the other day about my resume, this woman is gonna tell me, being a homemaker is not a job. She goes on to say , you have been doing this for the past ten years? Why is that? It's because my husbands income allowed me to stay at home and get my kids from school before a child molester got to them! Turnes her face beet red. Many see black women as threats and I could never understand why until that day.
