Big Chop

Hey Ladies!! Ok,so I've been transitioning to natural for 7 months now and I am so ready to big chop. I have about 4 inches of natural hair and I feel ready to chop my hair and start fresh. At first I was thinking of getting braids or twists and letting it grow a little more. My gut is telling me to just cut it and go from there. Any other natural ladies who have done the big chop? Was it a hard decision for you to make and  do you regret it? I am so ready for this change, I'm to the point where I don't care about length anymore.

I cut all my hair off years ago & I loved it. it grew back to my shoulders now. I think about cutting it again but I'm not.

I never cut it all off but I have seen lots of styles on youtube for those that have.

4 inches is a pretty good length. I think I chopped at maybe 2 or 3 and had the mini fro. Don't regret it at all as I've done it twice and it saves me money and time  (this is not the case for everyone though.)

Went a lot longer than you and I still had anxiety. Once you go it you will feel better though.

yeah my hair went from this:

To this:

Lots of anxiety about it!  Geesh and I had to learn how to work with it all over again...now I wear it like this:

Length check about 5-6 weeks ago!

I must admit, I can't wait till it gets back to my shoulders again!

i did it like two weeks ago...i don't know why i didn't do it sooner! lol. it is really cool not to have to flat iron or perm my hair anymore. i just wash and go...love it. as for you, if you feel in your heart that it is time, you should do it. it will need to be done eventually, just a matter of how long to wait and how much new growth you want on your head for your twa (teeny weeny afro). just look up all the natural hair girls on youtube and the blog sites to get a feeling of being natural. for me, i could not deal with being two different textures anymore! my permed ends were badly tangling and falling out, so i knew it was time. i was only post relaxer for nearly three months and i incurred a bunch of shrinkage due to my natural texture and all, but it is cool...i like it. lol. it was very hard for me at first (before i did it) because i was afraid of the look and how people would view me, but at some point i decided i just didn't care. do it! you won't be sorry...it will take some getting used to, but you will get used to it and it will grow back anyways.

just cut it. Waiting just means more anxiety. Just do it.
