I KNOW SONE OF YALL GONNA HATE ME....

Last night I was having a discussion with someone about food stamps and public assistance and she disagreed with me. Heres my point of view, should we be able to get food stamps and assistance YES! But the govt needs to put a cap on that shit.I have a family friend who has housing food stamps etc and has never worked a day in her life. I feel that it should be a temporary thing let's say 3 years the max. And if you are receiving assistance it should be required that you go to school and or have a job... that's my thought on it and NO I'm not bashing anyone that gets assistance but some people are abusing the system and making it hard for those who need help.

Ugh, I just got into this with someone on FB earlier today....not gonna do it, but I will say this:

Just because someone is poor, doesn't mean they have to LOOK poor. Plenty of people have things that they have brought/aquired before they needed help that they don't want to part with. It doesn't mean they don't need help. How would you like someone to give you a snotty look just because you have food stamps just because you have a damn car? I mean, seriously?

What some people do NOT realize is that there is a cap on some forms of public assistance, welfare being one of them. You cannot collect it for more than 24 months total in your entire LIFE. You have to have a really really REALLY good reason to even apply for an extension and most people do not get it ("I can't find/get a job" is not a good reason, either). A lot of these people that ya'll are so worried about are actually collecting things like SSI and disability, which do not have caps. There are RIDICULOUS disabilities that shouldn't even be on the list (like being morbidly obese...you mean to tell me, because you couldn't say no to Little Debbie and Micky D's and are now 500 pounds, people have to donate their tax dollars to take care of you cuz you can't stand to work? Are you KIDDING me right now?).

Food stamps shouldn't have a limit on them...there's enough starving people as it is. Put a cap on it (let's say the OP's 3 years) and what happens if you get married, your husband is the breadwinner, dies, and you can't find a decent job and you've got kids to take care of?

These programs like SSI and disability are what need to be more heavily policed, not state and government public assistance programs.

I don't agree. It took me 10 years on active duty to get off govt assistance & the state still pays some of my daycare so basically I am still on it! I did not know I would be single w 3 small kids... at 1 point had 3 in diapers! I am $30 over the reduced lunch eligiblity so paying for their lunch & breakfast. People who abuse the system should be investigated & dismissed from the programs!

Quoting Hottmomma607:

LOL No ma'am I forgot about your post! Ms. Lady I said "other people"! I saw that mess in one ya'll fav groups! Confess something?? LOL

Quoting Tish_Hughes:

Are you referring to my post where the chick was trying to sell her foodstamps to the hair stylist but she had an iPad?

Quoting Hottmomma607:

And if they had a luxury car? And? Hard times right! If they get stamps and always had you're not getting a luxury car on bad credit! Lets just be honest! I was reading another post CM someone said such&such had ipad&iphones! Again majority of the rent so you mean to tell me they had $600 to blow in an ipad, instead electric bills, etc. Its all thid exaggerations to make people on welfare look bad! Just sounds stupid! And jealous! I remember this chick in Q&A said she was at the PA office and a woman had a full-length FUBU coat that cost more than her wardrobe! C'mon son! GTFOH! FUBU didn't cost that much when it was POPULAR!! And how did she know how much it cost? And she said she had 2 cell phones!

Quoting inmybizz:

I think they are exaggerating a tiny bit to get everyone all riled up.. FS user with a luxury car gets people all crazy LOL!!

How can you play that much attention.. With getting my stuff on the conveyor belt thing, watching  my child,  skimming through the magazines, searching for my wallet/CC..I pay no mind to the person in front of me..

Quoting Hottmomma607:

IKR! I am at a grocery store with a full cart of groceries does it seem I have time to check what other people are buying? I also seen people describe all the items in their carts, then they drive away in a luxury SUV! o_O

Quoting inmybizz:

I've never noticed either. To be honest i don't know what a fs card looks like..I also give the person ahead of me personal space- i stand back a little bit until they complete their transaction...

Quoting luvthagirl:

That's another thing, I've never take notice on how the person in front of me is paying. I give them space (at least 4feet) and mind my own business cause I have tons of other things I could be worrying about beside the type of payment option a person is using & car they are driving

Quoting Captzsss:

While I agree that there should be some type of limitations on FS,  I also agree people need to mind their own business.  I never know who's paying with FS becasue I don't care.  I'm too worried about what's going on with me and mine to worry about who's paying with FS, what they have in their cart, what they're driving etc.  I rather have my taxes going to the FS program than some stupid space crap or any other stupid program that's usless.

Quoting luvthagirl:

But what does that have to do with you? and wouldn't you still be inside the store checking out while they drive away in their luxury SUV?

Quoting fabmom525:

I totally agree, I get tired of seeing people in the grocery store that pay with their food stamp card then go out to the parking lot and drive away in an Escalade!

Quoting fabmom525:

Wow, it must be you then since you are getting so snappy. If you don't like what I said just move on to the next reply.

Quoting luvthagirl:

You need to get a grip on reality and mind your own business cause you know you meant that, people that are joking normally add lol or jk

Quoting fabmom525:

It was a joke, get a grip

Thank you for sharing! That's another good point a lot of military are on some sort of PA! And it shouldn't be that way! I hate to go political but Mr.R. wants to expand the Navy! With what funds?! My DH works for the government he did AD&reserves but he has been working as a civilian they already put a freeze on their raises awhile ago! He would have to move into a GS13 to get more money!*sigh*

Ok lol
My opinion on the whole food stamp and public assitance issue is simple, if the family includes a child then he or she applying for it deserves it!! I hate to think of a child starving! All because the mother or father is dressed up does not mean that they have money for the child to eat! Those items can come from anywhere!!!! Here in bk ny almost the poorest girls and guys have on the most expensive stuff, i feel like at the end of the day we are talking abt FOOD!! Like idc everyone should get free or reduced price groceries if you ask me! I hate to see ppl hungry on the street! And honestly food is expensive! Like just yesterday I picked up some quick things and it came up to 55!! A bag of grapes was 9 bucks! So like honestly idc what anyone says food should be cheaper, or free for the qualified! Drivin a benz or walking

Trust me I see where you coming from I don't want to see anyone hungry child or adult. My thing is there are a lot of ppl taking advantage of the system, I feel if you receiving assistance it should be a must that you at least go to school to better your self or work pt

If the person is working but not making enough money, then they shouldn't have a time limit placed on food stamps.  Lets face it, decent paying jobs that can cover rent, health insurance, etc... are hard to find.

If the person is in school, they should have to provide proof each year that they are in school, and a 4 year time limit placed before tehy are cut off.

There should be no reason for someone to live off of social assistance and food stamps and not work a day in their life.  They should be given 9 months to find a job or be cut off from any assistance.  That's just pure laziness, and makes it hard for those who truly are in need.
