Projectile Spit-up in a One Mnth Old... Advice Needed for Update...
Does/did anyone's baby/ies have projectile spit up issues? I'm trying to figure out what's going on- and can only come up with Acid reflux, overactive let-down or just over-eating... I'm thinking it's the second one causing the last one considering I can get about 3 oz off one side in about 6 mins when ...I'm full (not engorged)- but I'm not for sure. He's gagging a lot and having projectile spit-up after every feeding (It hit my mouth earlier- yuck)- It's also predictable (You can tell when it's about to happen and sometimes catch it in a burp rag). I'm feeding less (pumping before I feed him to reduce the amount of let-down) and sitting him up after feedings (I'm trying to sit up most of the time- and staying away from laying down because of it) and nothing's helping-
Any ideas? His pedi is supposed to be making me an appointment with another doctor...

He's caucasion/native american, second child but first boy-
He's a week and a day old and weighed 10 lbs 3 oz at birth. He was born at 39 weeks 5 days. When I took him to the doctor on Monday he had gained to 10 lbs 4.5 oz- after going down to a lil below 9 lbs 13 oz in the hospital... He just started the vomiting after every meal today- it started once a day on Tuesday-
Update
Went to the doctor, and he was diagnosed with GERD and put on axid. A week ago we took him back in because he was gagging at nite, and they put him on Prevacid with the Axid.
Thanks to my dumb-ass, this weekend he has gone without his medications (I spilled half the bottle of Axid and insurance wouldn't cover a refill until today- Monday... with no other money to speak of. The Prevacid I decided to hold off giving him til nite so he MIGHT be able to sleep) BUT he has been the same if not better without any medicine at all.
As mothers, what do you think? Should I keep him on them even though they're really not doing anything, or do I leave him off them? I have an app't later this week, and am trying to figure out if there's really anything else I could do for him- but at this point, I don't know... Any ideas?
Over-eating is usually caused by overactive letdown. If the OAL measures aren't helping, then it COULD be dairy in your diet.
OR a true case of OAL.
My DD did that. It was 2 things. OAL AND allergies. By 6 months we had the OAL and allergies under control and she stopped spitting up all together. She still does it occasionally(she's 1) if we're having allergy issues. Or if my milk hits her in the right spot in the throat. XD
If it really was GERD, the med would be helping. I still suspect it's a letdown issue and not GERD at all; GERD is often diagnosed since it can be controlled with meds.
I'd be using the OAL strategies on kellymom.com.
My personal opinion is if you think you have overactive letdown do you have other symptoms besides the throwing up??? If he shows allthe signs or many of the signs of OAL then what have you done to fix it?
MANY times doctors diagnose reflux or GERD give meds and baby doesn't change. One of my friend on here hd that issue and once we got her working to block feed and nurse with baby sitting more upright he was perfect...meds or no meds.
Doctors aren't always right about relfux and GERD unless they do really invasive testing...if he didn't have some serious testing and yu have OAL work on fixing that and see if that will help
