Breastfeeding and Novacaine

I had a dentist appointment today and they told me because they gave me a shot of novacaine I needed to pump and throwaway that milk then feed my infant.  I don't have a pump, I'm a SAHM and don't really have a need for one.  I have expressed milk manually twice today, but of course it isn't as effective as  a pump.

Do any of you happen to know why you can't breastfeed once you get novacaine?  It is a local anasteasia and I can't see how it would affect my milk.   But my infant is throwing a tantrum because the forumula just isn't cutting it, she wants to nurse and go to bed.  Do you think I could nurse safely??

Because the dentist is stupid and has NO BFing info??  Nurse that baby forget pumping or expressing yuor dentist is not an IBCLC...never follow anyones advice unless they are an IBCLC or show yuor proff that its not safe per Dr. Hale

Both x-rays and novocaine (and other drugs used for local anesthesia, such as bupivacaine and lidocaine) are considered to be compatible with breastfeeding.

I had six shots of novacaine. Six shots!! And I still wasnt numb on the correct tooth >:(
But anyways. I read that since its local it wont affect your breastmilk. I nursed my baby right afterwords, a month later I did it again and nursed him, and again two weeks later. He was fine, showed no reaction or anything ;)
