Whenever I am nursing or pumping one of my breasts, 2-3 minutes into it my other breast starts hurting really bad. It feels like pins and needles. I have to press on it to make it stop hurting. I dont remember this ever happening with my other two girls. Is it normal for the let down reflex to actually hurt? It does happen with the breast I am pumping or nursing with, but not as painful in that one.

I don't know if it's normal or not, but I have the same thing happen. But mine feels like the pins and needles on top of an extreme tightening feeling. But mine also only lasts for less than a minute then goes away.

Did you just have your baby?
This happened to me when I first gave birth and my nips were sore from starting to bf. It stopped after the first week when the baby and I got into the rythm.
Same thing happened when I pumped or BF the side that was being used didnt hurt as bad. Maybe you can double pump or bf and pump to relieve the pain? If it doesnt stop soon call an LC make sure its not infected.
Yes, it's normal. Not everyone feels it like that, but it doesn't mean there's something wrong if you do. Mine felt like that for the first month or so, but then it got better. Now, 7 months later, I don't feel it at all. Though there are women who feel it like that for the duration of breastfeeding, it does at least lessen for most women.
I am hoping that it's normal b/c it's been happening to me too. It never did with my 1st, but with this one (he's 5 1/2 weeks old) it stinkin' burns like fire sometimes. I was asking the bf peer counselor at WIC the other day about it. She said it sounds like I have over-active let down...based on some other things that happen too. I was joking with her & said that maybe I should trying putting my boobs in the freezer for a few minutes before feeding :) lol! I sure hope it stops soon b/c it's painful!
Normal,I had that till my son was atleast 9 months old because of how strong my letdown was.
