Who put these rocks in my bra and where did my boobs go?

So my son is now 5 days old. My milk has come in full force to say the least. My breasts are so full I pumped and got out 2.5oz from one breast. I don't  understand why theyre so full when he doesnt nurse that often. I thought this was supply and demand. Poor thing I know I was nearly drowning him earlier when he ate because they were so overly full..I just need to know how I can make it less painful til we get on a schedule? They get so hard and full that they're itchy feeling and heavy. My back hurts from the extra weight. I breastfed my daughter and I didnt have any of these problems..but she did eat better then him..but like I said I thought this was supply and demand. IDK I want to keep pumping this extra for storage but at the same time I don't want to carry this extra milk for forever! What should I do? And how can I release the pain when he won't eat..

He sleeps like the dead..I can do whatever I want to him and he wont wake up..so waking him up to eat is nearly impossible!

I'm Stacy, I'm 20, I attend college, I have my high school diploma, My daughter is 3, I just had my son Nov. 22nd, I am engaged to their daddy, I am natural child birthing, I'm a non-smoker, I'm a non- cio, I co-sleep, I breastfeed, I disposable diaper, I vaccinate, I am bi-curious, I am pro-life, I believe in god, I spank when needed, I potty trained before 2, and I was teen mommy who has broken the stereotype!

I'm pretty sure it will just take your body a few days to adjust and then it won't be so bad.

I had the same problem with my now 2 week old. At two days old she wouldn't wake up for nothing. I tried everything. Finally giving her a bath did the trick. I still have to wake her up sometimes. It will get better but pumping isn't helping your supply. Your breast will produce as much as you need. Right now your breast are producing for your son and the pump. Cut the pump unless you want to keep that supply up.

I agree with her.  You can pump to relieve the pain but I would go take a warm shower and let the water run over my breasts to let out the excess.  That way, there is not a "nursling" on your breasts and telling your body to make more.  It will be like this for a few days.  Just be sure to wake and feed him every 1 1/2 to 2 hours.  He'll start to wake on his on but for right now you need to wake him.  Sounds like you have a sleepy baby and my second baby was like that.  She had a lazy latch as well that had me in tears for the first few weeks.

You will regulate, I promise. My concern for you is this. It IS a supply and demand issue, and if you keep pumping when you already have ample milk you wil only make more. I would try not to gocrazy with pumping. Good luck!

Also, at 5 days old you NEED to wake him to eat, I went with 4 hours if DD didnt wake on her own, she usually did, but there were times she would try to sleep forever. Anywho, the baby needs calories during the night as well as the day, so tickle him or undressa him. I would sometimes have to undress DD and take a warm wet rag and basiclly bathe her to wake her.

She's absolutely right. I had your problem also. I pumped to relieve the pain and had to keep pumping. I finally just had to breastfeed only and let my boobies regulate themselves. It took some time and some pain but it worked. Now I don't wake up with huge, rock hard, painful boobs anymore. Good Luck!

Like a PP said, I use to take very warm showers and just hand express some out until they didn't hurt any more.  I have never liked pumping!

All normal! our body doesn't know how many babies it birthed and will overproduce for a while. Keep doing what you've been doing.

And NO schedules, please. They are linked to failure to thrive. On demand lasts forever.
