so I'm proud to have been b'feeding for 3weeks 2 days! (and after having 3 formula fed babies..this is a huge challenge lol) ANyway... baby has gotten herself on a really nice, consistent schedule, I still have to wake her up to eat every 3 hrs in the day, and she sleeps 4-5 hrs at night. I thought my body would be use to her consistent pattern by now, but I still have letdowns and feel VERY full of milk as soon as 30-45 min after she eats! and I get that letdown pain feeling every 30-45 min until she eats at her usual 3 hr mark!
any ideas when it will level out? :)
It takes a bit for your body to regulate how much milk baby needs. This will level out anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months. My LO is almost 6 months and I still feel my letdown, but my breasts don't feel full unless I go quite a few hours without feeding him (like if he STTN).
I'm still bfing at 18 months, and occasionally I still feel the letdown feeling. For me, it always comes when she's nursing good and rhythmically, like when she "means business" and wants to go to sleep for the night. :D Otherwise, I've never felt it without her nursing on me already. :) I know - it pinches & hurts for a second - you say it hurts for an hour or so before she nurses again for you? Maybe that's normal for you, but I'd check with your doc just to be sure. Like the other poster said your body is still getting in balance with your baby and the whole "supply and demand" thing. Good luck mama! Congrats on 3 weeks!!
It can take weeks or months.
Don't wake the baby unless you're not changing enough dipes; no need.
