Overactive letdown + Growth spurt = Low supply?

Nicolai is 3 1/2 months old and going through a growth spurt. I have an overactive let down and I was wondering if the fast letdown could possibly lead to a low supply?

It seems like what's happening is this; Nicolai is HUNGRY. So he latches on. OMG, its too fast so he latches off. Latch on, latch off for ten minutes. Baby gets frustrated, gives up and goes to sleep. Baby wakes up, is sooooo hungry so he decides to deal with the fast letdown. He then stays awake for a few hours, gets hungry and the process repeats itself.
He eats perfectly fine at night, I'm guessing because we dont produce as much milk at night as we do in the day time.
Does this sound right, or do I have it all wrong?

I have an overactive letdown as well. Hero seems to have finally adjusted to it for the most part but he was always a great nurser at night as well. My lactation consultant told me that I believe it is called the side lying hold??? not really sure, but basically when you lay on your side and baby lays belly to belly with you and nurses that he can deal with the fast letdown better because he can let it dribble out of his mouth easier. I'm not sure how true that is but i'm sure the pros on here will knwo more. It did seem to prove true for me and Hero though.

Nursing against gravity is key with OAL. Which is probably why you have better luck at night because you are most likely lying down. During the day, lean back as far as you can and put baby on top of the breast. That will help slow the flow so he doesn't have to keep popping off and on. HTH Momma!
