So, I sent what I thought was enough milk to last 15 hours to daycare yesterday but they called at three and said they were out! I have since figured out that my cubes are light. So, they fed him about the right amount but when my hubby came to get the truck I gave him two six ounce bottles of pumped milk from lunch and when I got home, he had given almost six ounces in a bottle. One, DS doesn't usually eat for hubby, two, he should have only given 3.5 ounces or so! So, I barely had enough fresh for today. Hopefully today goes better. But, yesterday he wasn't nursing real great plus in the overnight hours he didn't hardly nurse. He would rustle and I always offer then, he refused but did go back to sleep. This morning he again refused. I took a shower and gave him a bath and then an hour or two later he nursed but not for long. Is he just maybe coming off a growth spurt or did the bottles affect his nursing? He's 7 months, been in daycare since 5 months and has nursed the whole time. Eats very few solids (he's still experimenting and mostly spits them out). So what do you ladies think?
Sounds like he is being overfed and people need to understand correct amounts to feed. When fed huge amounts from bottles and when away from mom they see MOM as the low supply time and nruse less from mom, thus creating lower supply, nipple and flow preference and evetually it becomes hard to pump enough and mom has to suppliment.
DO NOT leave 6 oz bottles..leave 3-4 oz bottles, this way people don't think that 6 oz is a feeding.
YOu need to tell daycare EXACTLY how much to feed him and EXACTLY what time to feed him, BF babies will overeat from bottles. Foremilk and hind milk are mixed in bottles..foremilk quenches thrist and hindmilk makes them feel full usually they get foremilk first then hindmilk but in a bottle its mixed, this confuses their tummy, ALSO the bottle is a faster flow and easier so yeah he eats way moer than he needs.
I think the bottles are affecting his nursing for sure..give set amounts for set times..by now you know his schedule...roughly.

I only gave the 6 oz one to my husband cause it was fresh pumped and I thought he got the one oz per hour rule. I gave him the what for so I think he got it. Baby never eats for him so that might have had something to do with it.

If I say two oz every two hours, is that an ok thing to tell them?

Give them bottles of 2-3 ounces. One ounce isn't enough. **grin**

Six ounces per bottle is still too much. 2-3 ounces for everyone. Makes your life easier.

well make him a schedule then LOL...2-3 hours give 2-3 oz of milk..nurse before leaving tell them nothing for 2-3 hours and then 90min-2 horus before you return no more bottles..if you need to set exact times and amounts, 2 oz every 2 hours or 3 oz every 3 hours are fine
Definitely not something you want to have happen again. But don't worry too too much about it this time around."One day" seldom ever throws anyone off as long as it doesn't repeat.
Maybe put red tape around the bottle at the "right" mark (3oz) to make it obvious that's the line to fill to?
What Tabi and gdiamante said is right on the money. Give 'em 2-3oz bottles depending on if you want feeds every 2 hours or every 3 hours.
You can pump over the weekend or add an additional pumping session early in the morning before baby wakes up to try and build your stash of milk back up a bit, if you're worried about that.

That's what I do for hubby, he pours into the bottle that he eats from. He won't eat from most bottles so the 6 oz is the bottle I pump into. Usually I get it broke down to smaller quantities but I had just pumped it a few hours prior. I give the daycare the one oz that way they can do it by hours, they just are suppose to use three tubes for three hours or two tubes for two hours and so on and so forth.

Yeah, I'll have to do that. One day they insisted on giving him a bottle before I took him, I was like, no, I'll feed him when I get home. They were just distraut about it but I took the bottle home, but because they heated it I had to pitch it but that was ok, I didn't want to have them give him a bottle while I waited when I could nurse him at home.
YOu don't have to pitch a bottle that has been heated necesarily. It can be reheated again safely. I would've saved it personally if he had not been offered it. My daycare did the same thing and KNEW I pick up at 3:30 everyday, I walked in at 3:32 and they were warming a bottle for my son, who was PASSED out asleep...
I was like hello, he's asleep and I am here on time..why in the world would you warm him a bottle?
My son was sleeping too! Why do they do that? Daycares...I didn't know what they had done withit so I figured it was easier/safer to just pitch it, I think it was an ounce.

MY daycare did it because they were sure I was starving him, they even called CPS on me for not leaving enough even AFTER my ped and IBCLC made a feeding plan for him..which he followed and was a happy critter on. After 3-4 months in daycare he was almost declared FTT and I personally think it was from their attitudes more than anything. Once we pulled him he stuck with the same feeding schedule when home with my hubby..same oz and everything and yet was FINE and caught up with weight and milestones in a matter of weeks.
That is horrible, I'm not sure what I'd do if my daycare did that. I'm glad I haven't had as many issues as you have.
