The biggest surprise to me was that no matter how hard I tried, I'd end up with children that did "that" or acted "that way" because it wasn't just parenting skills but things that children do.  Children will be children, I guess, is the biggest surprise.

That no matter what you do your kids will do what THEY want to do. Don't want to sleep through the night, they won't. Don't want to get dresses, they won't.

How the first thing I think about when I wake up, before I go to sleep, after any "news" is my children =]

That I would become a very light sleeper.I was a pretty sound sleeper before I had my children. After I had my first child that all stopped.Every single sound woke me up.Some nights I,when he was new,the only way that I could sleep was to co-sleep.I was so terrified that I'd miss a cry or that he'd stop breathing. He did once.Same with my daughter, but she never stopped breathing like my son did.

The biggest surprise for me was, having my 6 month daughter love's her 3 year old brother. I thought it would be hard for my son to get used to having a sister! but they love each other. When my son throws his fits my daughter laughs and giggles!

so the biggest surprise is that, having my two children that love each other a whole lot.

My biggest surprise was that I could see parts of my son's personality when he was only 2 weeks old - like his temper!
