My pedi has my 7 month old on prescription polyvisol with iron to get his vitamin d and iron. Wic said where he was refusing anything but jared fruits he wasn't getting any iron. I took him to the dentist yesterday and the vitamins are leaving black marks on his teeth so i don't want to use them. He is now eating little bit of cereal in morning, something green in afternoon and fruit at night and nursing. What foods can i give him that he will get enough vitamin d and iron from so i can get rid of these vitamins?

The pediatric dietician/nutritionist at the children's hospital we saw last week said they are actually reccomending starting baby meats as soon as you start offering solids.  They have natural iron that is better absorbed than the drops.  The cereal has harder to digest iron because it is added in.  At 7 months old, solids should only be a little bit offered AFTER nursing and definitely not neccesary.  So if he doesn't want them, you don't have to push it :)  Vitamin d can be just 10 minutes a day in the sun or an all natural supplement (NOT polyvisol!).

My pedi has my 7 month old on prescription polyvisol with iron to get his vitamin d and iron. ummmm did his iron com eup low by blood draw? If not the iron in your milk is better absorbed and though lower than formula or cereals its WAY better absorbedWic said where he was refusing anything but jared fruits he wasn't getting any ironyeah WIC are idiots, BM has iron just fine. I took him to the dentist yesterday and the vitamins are leaving black marks on his teeth so i don't want to use them.well you shouldn't anyways they ruin the absorbtion of the natural iron from your miljk and can in fact make iron worse He is now eating little bit of cereal in morningehhhh cereal is NOT a good source of iron, sweet potato, black strap molasses, squash are good sources...the cereal is fortified, as bad as the drops in absorbtion, something green in afternoon and fruit at night and nursing. What foods can i give him that he will get enough vitamin d and iron from so i can get rid of these vitamins?vit D is from the sun 60-90 min a week is perfect, if your LO can not get that then get drops that are ONLy Vit D and nothing else Carlsons and Just D are good brands..not formula brand kind.  Iron I listed for you before heres some links for you
