Curious: self weaning vs mother led

I've been curious about this:

I have twin boys that I nursed. When they were about close to to 2, I started putting limits on them.

I got them nursing twice a day. One nursed till 3 1/2. The other one, I just got him weaned at over 4 1/2. At that point, he was nursing once a day. So, I gently encouraged him to wean (stickers on a chart)

Would this be "self wean" or "mother led". It doesn't matter in the end, just out of curiosity.

If you imposted limits, then I would call that mother-led weaning.

But it's still bad-ass. lol

I would definitely call that self wean.

I bf'ed my dd until she was 26 months then on a family vacation we "switched up" the bed time routine and stopped cold turkey.  She asked me for it a couple of times, but never got upset about it.  I would call what I did mother led.

I agree that setting limits makes it mother led.

But fabulous job nursing twins for that long!

Mother led because you did something to encourage the weaning.  I too did somewhat mother led in about the same vain with my now 4 yr old because I am pregnant again with #3 and didn't want to nurse 3 at once.  My 22 month old is sort of mother led since he is weaning due to the pregnancy so it ialso not totally natural and on HIS terms.
