Is it typical to have one duct swell all the time?

Every other day or so i have one duct on my right breast that swells up and gets hard. I make sure to nurse her on that side as soon as I notice, and I massage the duct... But why the same one every time? And what can I do to prevent it? After all the issues we've had, the last thing I need is a clogged duct!!!

Are you nursing her with her nose pointed towards the duct? Perhaps she isn't emptying that duct properly.

Yes. Most of the time. At night we lay side by side for feeds...

It's because the clogged duct has a little extra space in it after it gets cleared. The clogged duct expands to hold the trapped milk, then when you clear it the duct can stay inflamed. I have the same thing happen. I do the same thing - just get at it when you can. I don't know how old LO is, but mine hardly ever get clogged now - it gets better with time!

I have also found that when I started bed sharing the clogs came back due to the way I was laying in bed.
