am i the only one out there that gets beyond ticked off with i read statements like this? a friend (and i use that term loosely) posted about the doc confirming her dd being colic and some one replied back with dont worry they have formula for that.

ok first, isnt colic just a name docs give to a child that is extremely fussy but they cant figure why. and B, why in this day and age do people still think formula is some miracle cure.

im sorry if this offends any one. im not anti formula but i do urge a mom to try every thing before resorting to formula. maybe its just my hormones or lack of sleep but im getting annoyed really easily tonight. and no i didnt say any thing.

My son was SUPER colicky when he was about 2-4 months because he was allergic to milk. He's on Nutramigen. The first time he had it, he slept thru the entire night(and has since. He's 11 months).

it bothers me too! im in a "young mommies" group on facebook and when a mom posts about how her baby is having tummy problems, the first question i always see is "what kind of formula is he/she on?" im like uhm hello, you dont have to assume that every baby is formula fed!!!!!! grrrr!

Yeah considering no formula out there is going to digest as easily as breastmilk!

I feel the same way. I am sitting in my hospital room with baby staring at 3 'breastfeeding' bags they gave me. All 3 have formula in them. 2 cans of powder and one has four mini bottles of ready to eat with a nipple provided to pop right on there and into baby's mouth. Welcome to motherhood, breastfeed your baby, we will show you how, oh and here is some
Formula. :(

A mother could continue to breastfeed by removing milk from her diet (I have done it for 3+ years now). Some babies can't tolerate those special formulas and mom ends up having to relactate and still cut out the milk.

I know what I could have done and I tried bfing. I'm not explaining why I had to stop because it's none of anyone's business. He tolerates it just fine, thanks.

Actually, I think its great they have a formula for that as some people CAN'T or just simply don't choose to BF for whatever reason. At least the baby gets relief. Of course I would much rather a mom choose to BF, but its just not the reality. It does annoy me when a mother will go on and on about her baby having colic and BF is very much an option and she just flat out refuses to look into it. Those are the cases where I'm glad they have formula to ease the babys tummy.

thats why im not anti-formula. i guess to get my entire frustration with this "friend" you would have to have a ton of back ground. she swore her first was allergic to milk and colic. yet nothing "helped" her. she recently did an allergy test. shes 1.5 now, maybe 2 and found she has no allergies.

im sorry your ds was so colicky and yall found something that helped him.

It's not about picking a fight about bf vs ff. I'm glad your son is doing well on formula. But since this is a breastfeeding support group especially, I like to make sure women know (not you, but anyone reading your comment) that you CAN (again not you specifically, but women in general) breastfeed a baby with a milk allergy. :-)
