Okay so I breastfed my son (actually he is just now down 2 or 3 pumped sippys a day now cause i work outside the home). So my question is and I don't really understand it with him.Okay so do you feed a baby for 15-20 mins on breast then move then to the other breast for 15-20 or do you wait till they unlatch and then offer the other breast? With my son I let him feed from one breast for like 20-30 mins and then he would self unlatch I would offer the other breast but he really never took it. So next nursing session I started with the breast he didn't use the first time.I'm just not sure if this is the best method? lol I just kinda went with what worked with him. However I'm pregnnat with the second and want opinions.
That's how I did it with my daughter. If it works,go with it :)
The first few minutes of a nursing session, the milk is more watered down. It's the hind milk that is released towards the end of the session that is the most nutritious and has the most fat content. For this reason it is best not to break a baby from the breast, and let them end the session on their own. This will guarantee that they get more of that fatty milk. Then during the next feeding, offer the opposite breast. Hope this helps, and good luck with your new baby!
You feed "on demand" that means not only starting the process of breastfeeding, but allowing baby to come off the breast on his own, and then offering the second breast. Baby may or may not take it. Never time how long baby is on the breast before switching!
okay ty thats what i did with my now 14 month old but i was always totally confused on what was actually suppose to be done so i wanted to make sure with my 2nd on the way
No timing. Let him come off on his own. What you did before was perfect.
I followed my babies. My oldest nursed on both sides each feeding and my second nursed on one side each feeding. I wish my oldest nursed on only one side because out would have helped the overactive letdown and oversupply that I didn't know about ten years ago.
Quoting gdiamante:No timing. Let him come off on his own. What you did before was perfect.
