We see it here from time to time. A lot of moms swear by dairy elimination for this.
instead of a dermatologist i would see an allergist. eczema is often caused by allergies. it could be something that you are eating or environmental. also, think of it as "an itch that rashes, not a rash that itches". if there is any chance that he can scratch at the area keep it covered. try using an unscented laundry detergent. skip any fabric softeners. you're doing great with the lotions. i find Aveeno Baby unscented works well for my dd. i also use aveeno baby unscented body wash in the tub. we used Lubriderm sensitive/unscented with my son. are you using the cetaphil wash in the tub? that is a really good moisturizing wash. some babies' skin does better having fewer baths to not dry it out. but, i find that with my kids not going more than 3 days works best. usually i bathe mine every other day. that way the dead skin gets shed and the new skin gets good and moisturized. good luck! hope he feels better. hopefully it will get better as he gets older. my son is 6 and his skin is better. it still gets patchy during this time of the year with the dryness. but, he won't let me put lotion on him so that's part of why his gets bad. when his gets real bad i put some hydracortazone cream on the spot a few times to help it clear up.
My dd gets it when I have dairy. I also started bathing her in ONLY water, and only once or twice a week. I used coconut oil on her until it cleared up, and now I use Baby Biruti body butter from The Body Shop.
I like CJ's BUTTer and I will also use hydrocorizone and Aquaphor as well.
I find that aveeno excema therapy for babies, emu oil, and oat meal baths (aveeno sells packets of them) work to help DSs excema.
hi, my baby is 15 months and has always bad eczema. We use hydrocortisone and aquaphor. I coat him with aquaphor top to bottom twice a day and his bad spots every couple hours. This really helps. he has been tested by the allergist and is allergic to peas, eggs, beef, tree nuts, peanuts and garlic.
Cutting dairy can take as much as three weeks to show a change in eczema. Also know that any viral illness can make eczema worse.
