Really bad eczema...

My ds has had really ba eczema for a whole now. (about 3 months) it had been so bad that it starts to get weepy. We took him the the doctors in December and they gave us an antibiotic just in case so it wouldn't get infected plus a steroid cream. Well it cleared up for a while and then came back again in January. This time we just did the steroid cream ( which even my doctor said not to use to much because a lot it not good for baby) well now we have a check up this Thursday ad what do you know...it was okay yesterday and is starting to get pretty red on his leg. Mostly it is his one leg then a little on his back and other leg but only the one leg has gotten really bad and weepy. I used the steroid as directed plus used aquafor and cetaphil multiple times a day as directed also. I don't know why his skin keeps doing this. It will be getting better one day and then the next it will be worse again...anyone else have this problem. They may recommend a dermatologist Thursday if it's not looking better...

We see it here from time to time. A lot of moms swear by dairy elimination for this.

My son had from birth on... We cut out dairy & that helped a little. Then I started applying aveno exzema cream 3 times a day mixing in a tiny bit of hydrocortizone when it Flairs up. After a few weeks, it cleared up. He still gets little flair ups here & there. Remember that growth spurts, teething & sickness will make it come with vengence.

instead of a dermatologist i would see an allergist. eczema is often caused by allergies. it could be something that you are eating or environmental. also, think of it as "an itch that rashes, not a rash that itches". if there is any chance that he can scratch at the area keep it covered. try using an unscented laundry detergent. skip any fabric softeners. you're doing great with the lotions. i find Aveeno Baby unscented works well for my dd. i also use aveeno baby unscented body wash in the tub. we used Lubriderm sensitive/unscented with my son. are you using the cetaphil wash in the tub? that is a really good moisturizing wash. some babies' skin does better having fewer baths to not dry it out. but, i find that with my kids not going more than 3 days works best. usually i bathe mine every other day. that way the dead skin gets shed and the new skin gets good and moisturized. good luck! hope he feels better. hopefully it will get better as he gets older. my son is 6 and his skin is better. it still gets patchy during this time of the year with the dryness. but, he won't let me put lotion on him so that's part of why his gets bad. when his gets real bad i put some hydracortazone cream on the spot a few times to help it clear up.

More than likely it is a food allergy. Start with dairy and all nuts elmininated from your diet for at least a week. What soap are you washing him with? My ped said not to use j n j because she has seen a lot of allergies to it. You can get special non irritating soap at babies r us. Also what are you washing his clothes, blankets in? Is he getting it where he is touching your clothes by chance? May need to wash everyone's clothes in dreft. I suffer from it myself so I understand....also try a different moisturizer....we use eucerin....that has helped.

I agree with seeing an allergist.

My dd gets it when I have dairy. I also started bathing her in ONLY water, and only once or twice a week. I used coconut oil on her until it cleared up, and now I use Baby Biruti body butter from The Body Shop.

Most likely an allergy or sensitivity to food. I would recommend cutting out dairy from your diet first to see if it helps. It takes a month to get dairy out of baby's system so you may not see any improvement until then. Other culprits are soy, wheat, and eggs

I find that aveeno excema therapy for babies, emu oil, and oat meal baths (aveeno sells packets of them) work to help DSs excema.

hi, my baby is 15 months and has always bad eczema. We use hydrocortisone and aquaphor. I coat him with aquaphor top to bottom twice a day and  his bad spots every couple hours.  This really helps.    he has been tested by the allergist  and is allergic to peas, eggs, beef, tree nuts, peanuts and  garlic.

My older daughter has had eczema since birth. It is partly genetics, and partly a serious dairy allergy. Whenher diet is perfectly dairy free, she might have a few tiny spots. If she gets any dairy, she gets a nasty combination of hives and eczema flare from her neck down. When it flares I mix her steroid and aquqphor and slather it on after a bath. Minimizing irritating soaps, detergents, and shampoos should help. Bathe infrequently (if I bathe Maggie more than twice a week her skin dries out too much and her eczema flares) in warm not hot water. I like to put coconut oil in the bath water, it help moisturize her skin.
Cutting dairy can take as much as three weeks to show a change in eczema. Also know that any viral illness can make eczema worse.
