When do you start solids and what do you give them?

My son is going on 3 months and I know some ppl give cereal at 3 months, some at 4, some at 6. Some skip it and at 6 months give puree foods. When do they really need solids?????

Depends on who you ask--everyone will tell you something different.

For my son, we have decided strictly breastmilk until 6 months, then slowly start foods (skipping rice cereal completely) after 6 months.

Honestly, they need nothing but BM until a year. Even when solids are added, before a year they should not ever replace a nursing nor should you feed solids before baby has fully nursed. Latest recs are waiting until 6mo minimum and not starting with cereals at all. You could do purees or google baby led weaning. I would absolutely NOT give any form of solids to a baby as young as yours.

This. I introduced table food (sliced avocado, roasted sweet potato, banana) at six months and followed the book "Baby Led Weaning." I offer here and there but dd is 9.5 months old and is just starting to actually want to eat stuff and not just play with it. I plan on primarily bfing until a year.

They don't need solids for a whole and cereals/ purees are never needed. My baby's first food was really oversteamed broccoli.
