Im about to become a first time mom and im trying to pick which breastpump i want, i cant spend alot on a breast pump so im going manual and it wont be used all that much just when i want to sleep hubby can look after her or when we go out and her nana looks after her, im looking at the Philips Avent manual or the medela harmony, i will buy any of these2 but i want the best one out of them do you ladies know which is the best
or do i spend the extra $80 for the mini electric i am worried i will regret not buying it when the upgrade kit its 170 extra if i decide later on thats what i wanted then i have spent 280 instead of 180 in 1 go what do u think?
Thanks
They are both VERY similar I just like the insert in the Avent pump better
btw the Lansinoh manual is great too
I initially got the manual medela pump because I thought I wouldn't use it much. When I began ep, I ended up getting the electric pump (the single one). I don't mind having both though because the parts are interchangeable and I can always bring the manual if I'm going somewhere and won't be able to use the electric. I haven't had any issues with either so it's really based on your needs and budget. My dh's aunt bought me the electric pump, with our budget I couldn't make myself buy it.
For infrequent bottles I'd recommend the Avent ISIS, personally.
Be careful with pumping for bottles in the early days, btw. It's one of the "boobie traps" that can result in breastfeeding failure. So just be aware of the pitfalls. :) Also be aware that it's often the "gift that takes more than it gives" and the work to pump can often result in the whole thing feeling a lot like having a friend come over to "help" and when she leaves after 3 hours of talking about her own problems, you've got a sink full of dirty dishes. (Ie: not much of a help at all.)
I don't know which brand you are talking about for the upgrade, but the avent electric pumps are a waste of money.
I have only used the Avent Manual of the three. I had a friend who would alternate through that and the Medela Pump In Style for pumping at work and said she got the same amount of milk in the same amount of time with the Isis as she did with the expensive pump. I only used it for occasional pumping and I have no complaints.
