I'm starving her?

So I went to a WIC appointment today. Daisy 6 months old now. She only weighs 12.5 pounds and is 26 inches long. The nurse informed me that she is below 5% in her weight and below 25% for length and therefore my milk is not supplying her with the nutrients she needs to grow. She also told me that I really need to push solids because then Daisy will get at least a little bit of outside nutrients and will 'hopefully' fill out. :/ I feel like crap. I try so hard and Daisy eats ALL the time. Not my fault she was 4 weeks early, not my fault that she was colicky and has JUST started being able to be awake without screaming. Why do I feel like crying? This is the first time I've been 'successful' with BF and now I'm being told that I'm not. So I came here to post. You ladies seem to know what's really up. All I know is that I get zero support at WIC and doctor appointments. This town is soooo anti-BF that it's ridiculous. Everyone knows that I BF and they 'blame' it on my religion...(totally makes me laught because that has NOTHING to do with MY choice to BF).

Anywho...can someone tell me if my milk is bad or not working? am I starving my daughter? Thanks for taking time to read this.

You're fine.  Your milk is fine.  Your baby is fine.  If your doctor is happy with how your baby is growing, then there's NOTHING else to worry about.  What was her lowest recorded weight after birth?  I'd be willing to bet she's easily doubled her weight from that point since you say she was born a few weeks early!

We just went for my boys' "6 month" appt today even though they'll be 7 months tomorrow. Oliver is 13.4 (26in) and Liam is 10.9 (24in). I am beyond frustrated. My older two kids had NO problems growing an my boys are falling off the charts. I started solids 2 weeks ago too and haven't cut back on bfing at all.

Hopefully someone will have some advice.

She was 7 pounds 6 ounces at birth, but dropped down to 6 pounds 8 ounces the week after.

Which are only numbers without knowing the starting point. **grin** At six months she should be six pounds above her LOWEST weight.

The nurse informed me that she is below 5% in her weight and below 25% for length

Percentiles are meaningless. Ignore.

and therefore my milk is not supplying her with the nutrients she needs to grow.

You've told us nothing to indicate that.

Nope. Solids slow gain.

You shouldn't. More than likely you drew one of the many poorly trained WIC people.

Need a weight history, please. At least the birth and lowest weight. But if she's six pounds above her lowest weight you can tell the WIC nurdse to go pound sand.

I love your boys' names. I'm so glad I'm not the only one in the frustrated boat. *hugs to you mama*

Then she's FINE. Want a bucket of sand for the WIC nurse to go pound?

Relax. You're PERFECT.

Breastfed babies are expected to fall off the charts, which are designed for FORMULA babies to keep them from being over or under fed.

NEVER NEVER NEVER look at the charts. NEVER.

When you start getting reports of academic acheivement in a few years, worry about percentiles.

One pound per month is normal gain.

What G said.  You're completely fine here.  WIC case workers almost never have training in nutrition, beyond what the program itself teaches them.  There's a lot of misinformation floating around some WIC offices.

Sorry I should have put that at birth she was 7 pounds 6 ounces, but lost weight and was at 6 pounds 8 ounces the week after she was born.
