. i am now breastfeeding my second child and he just turned six months old two days ago(21lbs 9oz), but since i never dried up with my first child i make an extreme amount of milk so every night and every morning i end up pumping a bottle or two. my son never drinks the extra milk since he just latches to drink all day long (my friends all know this) the only reason i pump is to make myself feel better. today a friend of mine and her 10 month old child came over for a little playdate with my children, without even asking me she took some of my milk out the freezer heated it up and gave it to her child! she tried breastfeeding him but was unable to. i am not quite sure how i feel about this.. should i be feeling weird that her child is drinking my milk or should i understand that she wants to give her son the best since she couldnt??

For something that personal she should have asked. You could have kept it for your baby later on.

I would be a little weirded out that she just took it without asking.  That's the only thing weird to me.  If I were you, I would find a mom to donate milk to!

Ummm I don't think it's weird if the both of you discuss it and agree on it, but for her to just walk in and snatch your milk, she should atleast ask lol.

If you're not using it, could you just ask her if she wants it? Sounds like she would love to give it to her child! (But it is a bit odd that she didn't at least ask first!)

yes that is a great suggestion, even though he will only be having the breastmilk for two months or so before he is put on regular milk.. at least he will have some! i just didnt know if people should share breastmilk.

Lots of mamas are desperate for donor milk for their little ones.  (Eats on Feets, Milk Share, and Human Milk for Human Babies are all sites that help match donors to babies in need).

Pumping has kept you making too much milk. If you must do something for comfort you can hand express and use cabbage leaves or cold compresses. Use only one breast a feeding.

There can be multiple problems with other people using your unprocessed milk without testing or signing a release. You may be perfect but what if it turned out your husband had HIV or hepatitis without you knowing.

Of course you can't put a baby on whole milk before 12 months. The composition of cow's milk is very different than human milk and it can cause organ damage that may not show up for years. Human milk is needed for at least 12 months for brain development, cows aren't very smart. Formula is cows milk that has been modified to cause the least harm possible but it is missing over 400 things that human milk has. The World Health Org recommends breastfeeding at least 2 years for all children.
