i know this is tmi but i was wondering if anyone else on here has or had an issue with their nipples being different sizes and how it affected bf'ing... i'm 24weeks pregnant with #2.. with my first, i bf for the first 8 weeks and gave up because she wouldnt latch on my right side because my nipple is smaller on that side.. and i was tired of pumping.. i was young and uneducated and really regret that desicion to stop so soon so i'm trying to get as much info before hand this time so i can bf for at least 6 months (hopefully longer).. thanks!!

Mine were different shapes, and my kids preferred the one that looked "traditional" but nursed from both sides. If you give baby no other comparison at first (i.e. no pacifier or bottles until latching is established), you will likely have a better go of it. You CAN BF with just one side as well. You may be lopsided but it can work :)

Try a nipple shield if you can't get a latch after a while

mine are different. ds never really cared until he got older. he preferred my right side over my left because he could control the flow better/easier. i had over supply and over active letdown.

nipple shields are really hard to wean from, and are a pain. i had to use them in the early  months.

education is key, and a great lc!

I had one that was flat and one that was inverted. I just used the shells and they work now. Lol

I have nipples that point in different directions. They are mostly the same size, it created some issues in the begining. The great thing about bfing is that it fixes a lot of nipple issues. Inverteds are now extraverts and it might make your smaller one bigger.  There are lots of different holds to use while nursing. Give them a shot this time around, maybe baby will latch on in a different position.

i know this is tmi

No such thing here, except for phone numbers and bank info. We talk about EVERYTHING here and nothing's off limits.

but i was wondering if anyone else on here has or had an issue with their nipples being different sizes and how it affected bf'ing...

Here. No impact. We're normally asymmetrical. Not an issue.

i'm 24weeks pregnant with #2.. with my first, i bf for the first 8 weeks and gave up because she wouldnt latch on my right side because my nipple is smaller on that side..

You can nurse only one side for your whole nursing career. It's fine. Plenty of women do. And you don't need to pump. Likely thiswas a BABY issue. It's normal for them to have a preference.

and i was tired of pumping.. i was young and uneducated and really regret that desicion to stop so soon so i'm trying to get as much info before hand this time so i can bf for at least 6 months (hopefully longer).. thanks!!

Just relax. Follow baby's lead. Count dipes. Pump or not, up to you. But you can nurse only on one side for a year or more if you want.

Exactly. For various different reasons, I've nursed dd on my left side only since 3 months with no pumping and I make plenty of milk for her.
