I am currently breastfeeding DS #2. He will be 6 months on the 20th. I know around this time with DS #1 (who was FF) I introduced him to jar foods. This is my 1st time breastfeeding and the process is completely different. Should I still introduce my baby to jar foods? Did you give your baby jar foods or just strictly breast milk?

My first baby had jarred food around 6/7 months. I made my second baby purees. My third baby flat out refused to eat baby food, or anything like it: applesauce, pudding, etc. but at 7 months she was self-feeding little bits of any and everything. She taught me baby led solids. With my fourth, I never even tried "baby food" and started with little bits of actual food (banana, avocado, cooked sweet potatoes, etc) around 7 months. BUT REMEMBER that a baby's primary source of nutrition the first year is breastmilk (or formula) and solids are fed after breastfeeding, and for "fun", exploring tastes and textures. If you waited until a year, baby would still be happy and healthy.

I plan on breastfeeding until he is a year old. So if I do decide to feed him jar foods I do it after I nurse him?

Great advice. We decided to do baby led solids and I think it's worth looking into. Baby Led Weaning is a great book to read for that.
It's totally up to you. I personally would want to make my own purees before doing jar food because of additives and preservatives. I feel BLS makes the most sense.
But most important is waiting until after 6 months because that's when the gaps in their intestines close.

And yes to this. Until a year old, solids should be considered dessert. Nurse first, then solids.

i skipped "baby" foods and did baby led solids, when she showed an interest in my plate, she could start eating off it
My DS already does that now but I don't think he's ready.

You are probably right! People always think babies are starving for solids because they stare at us eating or grab for our food. They're not motivated here by hunger, they're driven to copy us. Often just giving them a spoon will satisfy them. Babies want EVERTHING we have, from our forks, to pens and keys, etc.
