fenugreek...

Is it safe to use? And how well does it work? I got a bottle from walmart in the herbal aisle and first thing it says is not to use in nursing mothers. Did I get the wrong bottle or does it matter what brand I get?

I need something to increase milk production. I nurse every 3 hours and she completely empties. Her diapers have gone to 3 wets aday. I go back to work in a few weeks and would like to continue bf and pumping but I don't have any to pump when she's done eating.

It's safe, my LC recommended it to me along w/blessed thistle. They put that warning on just about everything. I've heard it works great for a lot women. I wasn't able to take it because it made me sick.

Fenugreek is definitely safe - they put that warning on everything.

How old is baby?

Are you scheduling feeds, or is she just naturally nursing every 3 hours?

How full are those diapers? 3 is really low.

She's 3 weeks old. I'm actually schedule feeding during the day and at night every 3-4. Only today I've noticed 3 diapers and they weren't very full. She's been extra fussy today too. But usually she has 5 plus with 3 stools so I'm a little concerned

NO scheduling - breastfed babies need to be fed on demand. That's why your supply is decreasing. Let her nurse whenever she wants for however long she wants and your supply will fix itself.

Never ever ever schedule feeds! That's a very fast way to supply issues and low weight gain in baby, and other issues.
Always nurse on demand, never limit time on the breast. Let baby do herjob and your supply will naturally up itself.

The issue is not that you need fenugreek, the issue is that baby needs to nurse more, NEVER EVER schedule feeds from the breast!! At this age 17-20 hours a day can be spent at the breast..every 2-3 hours is the MAX..going 3 or even 3-4 hours can cause issues if baby is not doing this on their own!

Thekind of fenugreek ou gut is fine, even prenatals say not to take while preggers or nursing, BUT the fenugreek will not help if you do not nurse enough.

Why do you schedule?

I agree feeding on demand helps the supply go up and i use fenugreek and it works great :) I ALSO use nursing time tea because my supply is really low and i need a big boost.
