For the most part I love my MIL. We went to visit her this past weekend and she offered to watch Trace while DH and I went to dinner. Because we drove to visit her I didn't bring any pumped milk, but I did bring a 9 oz premade formula can because I supplement 2 oz after feedings at night. So before we left I put out a 4 oz bottle next to the premade stuff and told her that when Trace woke up to give him 2-3oz and then i'd nurse when we got back. We got back from dinner about 2.5 later (half an hour later than I thought we would) but still Trace would have been up for only about 45 mins or so. Trace was up and his little tummy was HUGE! MIL w/a smile- He's a big eater! I filled the bottle all the way up and fed him (abt 5 oz) and he was still fussy so I gave him the rest of the formula although he seemed to get full towards the end and slowed down but he ate it all- and he seems fine! Two minutes later he threw up like something from the Exorcist....Thanks for the Help MIL- next time I'll pass. I was soo angry! My DH says that I'm over reacting but I cannot believe that she would think a 5 month old needs 9 oz at a feeding! Geesh!
Not to mention-then he wasn't hungry and I woke up in the middle of the night totally engorged!
Ouch. He should only have about 3oz per 3 hours of separation. If you were only gone for 2.5 hours he could have probably gone without eating or gotten an ounce or so to tide him over.
You didn't explain the way a breastfed baby eats, therefore she probably didn't understand.
Babies were fed differently back then.
Explain better next time, but don't hold it against her.
I know it's been a long time since she's had a baby of her own and that she was excited to feed Trace. I guess I just figured since she basically raised her other two grandsons that are in the area she would have known better. She just has a way of pushing boundaries on other issues that rubs me the wrong way so I know that I'm super sensitive to things she does
Exactly, specific directions were given. I'd be furious. Poor little guy :(
Quoting collinsmommy0:
I'd be mad. If she can't follow your directions, then she can't watch baby.
