Hi guys,

I'm writing a series of letters to my daughter (who is now just about 7 weeks old), and am talking about different common misconceptions or phrases about breastfeeding such as "Human pacifier", etc.

Hopefully most of them will be obsolete by the time she's grown up.

What are the most annoying misconceptions that you tend to hear repeated all the time? I'm gathering a list so that I can write about every last damned one of them so that I can put them together in a book for Kira when she's pregnant with her first. :)

I never understand that response" my kids are fine" when someone says they won't breastfeed. Sure theyre fine now, as in they are alive, but who knows what they've been set up for for the rest of their lives by not getting the essential breast milk as a building block.

That some women "can't" produce milk and the way they determine this is after their first baby they didn't get it within a couple days...i didn't get mine till i was 5 days pp! and that if a baby is tiny the milk must not have enough "fat" in it...another one is if baby starts to get distracted my Grandma always tells me they must not want to bf they must want formula, how would an EBF baby know what formula is? or even want it for that matter?lol...That your milk supply is limited, WRONG the average nursing mom's body can produce enough milk for 5 children EBF at once, its supply and demand :-) that is the big one

"If they're at the age to be taken off the bottle, then they need to be taken off the boob!"
"If your breasts don't feel full then you must not be making enough."
"Baby isn't satisfied, so supply must be inadequate!"
"Huge obnoxious nursing covers are THE only way of NIP discreetly"
"After 6 months breastmilk magically turns to water...."

Oh man, I could go on all night! Hahaha

You can smother your baby with your breast if you don't hold it. I'm not even a big breasted mommy I just got c cups with this pregnancy lol. That you'll spoil your baby. My grandmother insist you can over feed a breastfed baby also.

LOL I am a granola crunching hippy. And I BF because I am too lazy to FF. (Along with many other reasons of course)

You must be a granola crunching hippy with long armpit hair if you breastfeed (especially full term)
Breastfeeding is too much work, formula is easier. (My SIL actually said she was too lazy to breastfeed.)

I like a lot of these! And I agree with most of them. Peoples comments don't bother me so much though. To each his own.
