That is what the pedi told me just now at my sons 6 month ck up. I told her that I EBF and a couple days ago I started solids but he's not into them. I tried carrots and sweet potatos all pureed. She said to mash up a potato with salt and pepper and butter (um no). Then she said give him rice cereal so I said Id rather give him oatmeal. She said after 6 months they need to be having more than BM and that BM alone is not enough. He really doesn't want food he holds his mouth she shut and won't open it at all. What am I suppose to do...force it in...cause I won't. I guess ill just try carrots again tonight and oatmeal in the mornings. I guess im suppose be giving him water too...

My kids are fatties who live to eat anything LOL, so we've never had an issue. Hope you get everything figured out momma. Keep trying until you find that food he loves.

Give it a couple days and try again?
I started cereal once a week with my dd at 4 months just so she would get used to it. She's a food face so she took right to it. Even now at 6 months she doesn't eat that much solids. I ebf. If she seems more hungry then usual then I'll get cereal and applesauce out.

Doc is an idiot and totally wrong. Your ds is probably not ready, and it's completely ok! He doesn't *need* them. Your milk doesn't magically turn to water lol. And no he doesn't *need* water either, but you can offer it ofcourse.

sorry but I am going to have to agree with this. If your child does not want solids do not force it. My kids ate soilds at later dates and thrived.

Your pedi is wrong. Your only job is to offer - baby's job is to decide when and what to eat. Solids before a year are considered dessert, meaning they're fine after 6 months, but not necessary.

And water isn't needed, but I always put a little bit in a sippy cup in case she wanted it while eating food.

^^this has the links for starting solids and for giving water.

Solids before 1 is for fun. It's for learning new tastes and textures and such but NOT needed for nutrition. When your LO is ready for solids, he'll eat them.
