Took Joseph to Nemours clinic in Jacksonville to see a GI today. They came highly rated. I left there so mad I was in tears. Here are a few things I was told by a Dr and a dietician
1. I need to not nurse at night. If he cluster feeds give a bottle of pumped milk instead. And if he wakes to nurse, let him cry it out. He might cry for an hr or so but he needs to learn to not get fed
2. You can't feed him every hr. It takes 2 hrs for your breast to fill up so anytime he nurses before that he isn't getting milk and its just comfort nursing (then why can I feel my milk let down and see milk come out???)
3. A tight frenulum will not cause poor latch and low weight gain.
4. Why don't you want to use formula?
5. Your baby nurses so much because he is too attatched to you. You need to night wean him *and* space out his feedings to at least 3hrs apart.
6. The 1-1.5 oz/hr of BM while away from me doesn't apply to older babies and at 9 mos Joseph should be taking larger feedings at daycare.
these are just some of my favorites. There was also the mention of vitamins and my milk is deficient and that I need to fortify my milk with a calorie booster and give vitamins. I am sure I will think of more later.. I am just so angry right now!!
Just thought you ladies would love to hear these!

First find a new doc. Second print of lots of info on why he was so wrong and drop it off for him to read. I am sorry, thank goodness you knew he was wrong!
If it were me, I would write a letter of complaint. They are not following AAP Guidelines on Breastfeeding.

I live in south GA. I drove 2.5 hrs there to be told this. Not sure if I should request a new dr or go ahead with testing and then fire them...
I am a nurse and deal with Dr's every day. The way this dr acted/treated me left me appalled.
Quoting FLmommy0204:I went to Wolfson' children's hospital with a Neumors ENT and was not very happy. Have a different ENT not related to Nemoursfor my other daughter and am much happier. I know Nemours is great in general, but there are always going to be bad docs (in any group). I get the feeling once they make it to a renown hospital, the docs get a big chip on their shoulder.
Are you from Jax or just here for the GI specialist?

If it wasn't close to a 2.5 hr drive they would both have a stack of articles on their desks! I feel horrible for the mom's that don't know better

I am horrible at writing letters.. I wouldn't know where to start or who to send it to.

How crucial is the testing? Can you be referred elsewhere? I usually just smile and say thank you in the face of such idiocy. And keep doing my thing :)

They are trying to make sure nothing is physically wrong with his gi system causing FTT. Do I fire them and test elsewhere or just test and then take the results to someone who is competent?

That's a whole heaping stinking lot of ignorant misinformation. :-/ I feel so badly for all the moms who are so completely undermined and sabotaged by those doctors. So many moms feel vulnerable in a doctor's office and assume since they're "medical professionals" they know what they're talking about.

The nutritionist also said I need to break the comfort nursing/night nursing habit now so DS doesn't "get addicted to me" ..if he isn't already
