ETA My baby just ate 6 oz of pumped breastmilk. Is this ok?

We are on a bit of a road trip and I pumped into a 6 oz bottle and when I went to the restroom and came back, my husband was halfway through feeding her the bottle, so I just let him give her the rest. She didn't show signs of being full, but she's only 6 days old. :/ Their stomachs are the size of a marble when they're first born, so how can she fit 6 oz in there?!

EDIT- I just talked to my husband and asked which bottle he gave her, and he is smarter than I give him credit for. He gave her the 3 oz bottle. Whew. I was really feeling sick over this. I pumped two bottles and when I saw him giving it to her, I could have sworn it was the 6 oz one. Thank God it wasn't. Anyways, thank you ladies for your answers

1 mom liked this
What's done is done, but I wouldn't do it again. Her tummy will stretch out.

I agree, that's way too much especially for a baby so young. About two ounces at most is all they should be given from a bottle that young.

probably has been stretched out. http://www.ameda.com.au/breastfeeding/breastfeeding-benefits/your-newborns-stomach-day-110.html

At age 6 days her tummy is more likely between the size of a ping pong ball and a large chicken egg.

Do you only give bottles?

No not ok  but it's done & you can't un do it.  A bf baby should never ever at any age get more than a 3-4 oz bottle. Especially NOT at 6 days. Like I said it's done but no more or you'll stretch her tummy out & never be able to keep up with her.

Remind him. I usually split into 2-3 oz bottles. With my dd doctor had me nurse and then feed her 1 oz of bm cuz she had lack of weight gain. So am sure that stretch her tummy :(

I agree with the other ladies, what's done is done but 6oz is way too much! That is like 2 feeds at once. Never ever more than 3 ounces at a time! In a baby that young bottles shouldn't be given at all and if they are I'd say no more than 2 maybe 3 ounces.

I just put an edit that it was the wrong bottle given. But we are having latch issues and that is why I'm giving her a bottle.

What type of latch issues? Maybe we can help with that. :)

Ummmm I always just fed my kids until they were full, whether by breast or bottle. I'm not sure what the big deal is if she ate 6 oz.

I'd LOVE your help! I posted a question yesterday and I only got a couple answers but all they said is "see an LC" and I was like uhhhh... Haha I actually do have an appt tomorrow with a lactation consultant but I'd like input from you ladies also!! At first, her latch was decent. Then it was bad. Then it was nonexistent. Then this morning she decided she wanted to have an amazing latch twice in a row! Now... Nothing. I get her to latch and she pulls away. I keep trying for ten minutes or so and all she wants to do is play with it. So of course I'm not gonna let her starve so I pump into a bottle for her and she takes it because it's easy. Grrrr
